That might be the most surprising score I've seen this week, and there's been plenty of head-scratchers.

How exactly does Utah come off a 3 game losing streak in California and then win in Colorado? I don't even have a guess as to how that affects the next poll.

If I'm not mistaken, the pre-season ranking from within the RMLC were:

1. BYU
2. CSU
3. Utah
4. CU

That was a big red flag for me...

Now what's your answer with Utah beating CSU in 5 OTs!

i'm glad utah finally flipped that switch. they've been under achieving all season until this weekend.

we'll see how things play out though. hopefully they didn't kill themselves with the early losses.

Let's see if I have this correct -- Utah loses to all four WCLL teams it plays, including bad losses to Claremont and, especially, to ASU (by 14 goals). The Utes also lose to both SELC teams they play.

But this same Utah team sits alone undefeated in RMLC conference play?

Whoever can explain this please take a shot... I give up pretending to understand the MCLA D1 in '08. Gotta dig the old dartboard out before the next time I have to cast a ballot.

The WCLL is in my opinion the League with the most talent. The top 5 are likely Michigan, Chapman, MDU, ASU and ...............BYU (even though they have had some tough losses, they are young and will be a force in the tournament). Claremont was overrated? or is Chapman that strong? 23-3 after beating Utah 14-6? SSU may also surprise some people and Oregon may still be a force, but lets see what they do against top tier teams.

Chapman is that strong, IMO. The #1 would be more evenly split if they played BYU on TV and the rest of the country saw the game. It is a tossup between them and Michigan.

From the last poll...

1. Michigan (37) 997 1
2. Chapman University (3) 959 3
3. Minnesota-Duluth 869 7
4. Colorado State 842 2
5. Oregon 829 5
6. BYU 795 4
7. Simon Fraser 760 11
8. Sonoma State 750 9
9. Arizona State 710 8

I don't know how you move ASU from 9 to 4, even if you drop Oregon and CSU down, they would still have to jump over BYU, SFU and Sonoma. They played great (from what I heard) at BYU, but ASU needs a win vs a top 10 school to get themselves in to that top 5.

It will be interesting to see how far Utah jumps, and how far CSU and CU fall. Utah probably needs to beat BYU to have a chance at going to Dallas. Unless CU can pull out a win vs BYU, Michigan or CSU, their national tournament life is also hanging by thread.

they lost to Utah in five overtimes. Utah is unseeded

team.

Wow, this Utah win over CSU.....well....I feel for the pollers. Especially since it was a 1 goal diffrence in Quintuple OT.

How much do you drop CSU?
How much does Utah gain from this and a win over Colorado?
How much does this effect teams (ex. Oregon) that lost to CU and CSU.
Then you throw in UCSB's loss to Florida.

I guess based on what has been going on, UCSB will beat ASU and Chapman will lose to Cal Poly.

Oregon beat CU, but lost to CSU and the CU game was already factored into the last poll

SB lost to both Florida and FSU, but FSU decided to make it interesting and lost to BC and VT in the past couple of days.

Good luck voters, I don't envy you. I really thought I had figured out the 12 or so teams that had legitimate shots at winning it all, and now I just don't know anymore.

Oh dem Utes. :? The way I look at it there might be two perspectives. 1 - Utah deserved to be a top fifteen team and finally got all their pawns in a row. Therefore CSU and CU shouldn't be bumped too far, since they lost to a good team, and Utah should climb back into the driver's seat for their bid at a tourney run. or 2 - both games were a fluke. Utah got lucky. CSU and CU should barely drop and Utah will come back in at a roaring #19.

Wish I couldv'e seen the games this weekend. Then I could possibly consolidate my confusion a little. Matt Qualey went mad in both games dropping 4 and 1 on the rams (with 2 in the last 1:25, to tie it up with :22 left) and 2 and 2 against the buffs. He wrote me a text with the score after the CU win. I thought it was great. I didn't think they had it in 'em to topple both Colorado teams on the same trip. Never been done before by any Utah team. Utah has ever been a 1 or 2 seed in the RMLC tourney, which they will be when we (Westminster) host them May 2nd and 3rd.

Great Job Utah!!!!

just thinking about the next poll gives me a headache. A couple questions I was thinking about:

-what happens to CSU? Beat #5 Oregon, but lost to Utah
-UCSB? They'll drop, but how far?
-SELC teams? Are they all good (UF, UGA, FSU, VT), and just beating up on each other? (see Utah, UCSB losses out there) Where do they all get ranked?? Does FSU drop much after losing to BC and VTech?
-How do you rank the 10-15 area? I see FSU and UCSB dropping to around 15, Cal Poly and CU dropping below 15, leaving 10-13 empty...who fills in? BC and Florida? VTech? I dont even know.

The crazy thing is that we have a whole bunch of games between now and the next poll. There's a chance that they will clear things up, but based on the way this year's been going, I think they'll end up just muddying the waters even more. I can't even imagine being a voter right now....crazy year....

It really depends. Like Dan said, the poll got extended a couple of hours to compensate for this game, but some other pollsters had to put in theirs beforehand anyway. So I would guess it is 50/50 already took into consideration what happened and the other didn't. More importantly is the game they have on Saturday against SFU. If they can win that game convincingly I doubt they go anywhere. They lose and they will fall.
