Lax World MCLA Div 1 Top 25 Poll (3/26/08) is out!
I don't really have a problem with how FSU fits into this poll. That UGA loss was a bad one and will continue to hurt them in the eyes of the voters. However if they take care of business the rest of the way and get through the weekend undefeated, then they shouldn't have anything to worry about.
The odd one is Oregon sitting pretty at #5 after getting slapped around by CSU. Who exactly have they played to earn them a Top 10 ranking? A CU team that hasn't played anyone either?

... or some voters had the teams ranked much furher apart and the game closed the gap, but didn't place FSU above UCSB.

Sonoma - pros and cons in the last 2 weeks
Beat CSU - pro, the Rams are a good team and this was a quality win at a neutral site
Lost to SFU - con, the Clan are on the rise, SSU scouted them the night before but came out flat and dug too big a hole to get out
These two offset in my mind anyway
UCSB lost - pro
The Gaucho's move down so someone, the Seawolves, have to move up to take that spot
The one that gets me is ASU moving down, albeit only 1 spot and 11 pts, after winning all of their games in the last 2 weeks.

Yeah, I thought of that but when that has been an issue in the past I remember a lot of pollsters coming on the boards and saying they waited until whatever game was over to vote. But if the game was after the deadline, so be it (though I'm still not sold on UO as a Top 5 team even without the loss to CSU counting against them).

The polls closed after the game, I believe, but some voters like myself had to make sure their vote was in before the game due to our own teams having games or other real life situations. Games on the due date of the vote, might only get some of the voters ability to take them into account.

Cal Poly is just way too high now...they were riding high after the Arizona game. Unfortunately, now they do not have any significant wins. Wins over Northeaster and Utah are really not that great.
2 goals against CU is not going to do it!

For the record, the voting deadline was extended two hours so we could factor the UO-CSU game result in before voting. Not every pollster had the opportunity to re-cast a vote, though, due to work, practice, family responsibilities, etc. But we did have to cast our ballots before Colorado beat Cal-Poly 10-2 last night, which might have had a significant impact on the poll. It sure would have influenced my own ballot.
My biggest problem with the new poll was the jump from 2 to 5 votes for my Washington Huskies. Since the previous poll we lost both games we played, 16-11 to SFU and 13-2 to 'Noma, yet received more votes than we did in the March 12th poll. Go figure. I have no clue who is voting for us, and we really don't deserve this consideration. I'm sure many folks must assume I am voting for my own team, but let me assure all this is not the case. I haven't cast a vote for U-Dub since the 2005 season, and for good reason.

I would have to say I am very happy with this poll. In fact, I have been very happy with the polling over that last 3 years. The pollsters seem to really take their polls seriously, and in the end, the teams all fall into the right places (except Utah a few years back). They seem to rely on all kinds of sources and have figured out a way to place teams fairly despite team A beating team B who beat team C who beat team A. Any of the top 12 teams can beat each other on any day. This is finally turning into a league where upsets are probable. Higher ranked teams run into matchup problems with lower ranked teams. Teams are sharing scouting reports and videos so teams are more prepared for games. The national coverage has improved. I just wish I was still playing. There is an obvious #1 and #2 this year, but the rest of the teams have been jumping around all over the place. Zamboni Driver has taken over the roll of ESPN on the boards. Although I think he can be blamed for the overhyping of Central Florida . I just wanted to voice my approval of the way the polls are working out and thank all the pollsters for putting the work in to get things right.
