Assuming UST and SJU played hard both of their scores vs UWEC dont compare to GVSU. But i guess things will settle themselves out. Just a bit scary with only 4 AL bids... i still dont understand the rationalization of CCLA hurting because of calvin but its too late for that.

Also the SJU vs. UWEC game was played in pouring rain, from what I was told.

I highly doubt either SCAD or Charlotte will move up in the poll to grab one of the 4 AL's. I can not see how any pollster would move either club up into the top 7 after losing in the SELC SF's.

While I don't know about us having a better squad in general, I can say with very little boasting that if we'd played either of the 2 teams in the other semi, on that specific day and time, we'd have won. We weren't perfect and we certainly still have some moments we'd like to have back in that game, but Emory had to play some damned good lacrosse and have a bit of luck to survive through what we brought to the table for those 2 hours.

It's a moot point though. I don't think we meet the At-Large Bid criteria in terms of our schedule. Our team officers didn't realize our out of conference games had to be D2, so we'd have to go find one more team to play after the tourney the way Emory has Dayton scheduled. (If anyone out there needs one, let me know.)

Wtih all that said I think we had a pretty good season. Other than letting the game against Davidson slip away late, the teams we lost to are all currently ranked in the top 10. Of those, the St. Thomas game was triple OT and the Emory game was a toss up until very late in the game. The Elon game wasn't close on the scoreboard, but I think even the Elon guys would tell you that the 1 goal margin prior to the "fight" in the third quarter was more indicative of the talent on the field than the final score that certainly appeared to have more to do with the officials.

Again, don't think we're moving up high enough to qualify, but I don't think we should be falling very far. We played top teams this season and we played each of them very close, I wish the coin would've landed in our favor in one or two of them, but I'm a firm believer that it's better to have lost a close gutsy game against a worthy opponent than to completely dominate a team that isn't on your level.

WOW! Elon is in. They just beat Emory.

That sends shockwaves through the AL bid world. The SELC is a good contender for an AL due to Emory's high seeding and not getting in at the conf. tourney.

The CCLA looks primed to take one if not two due to their conf losing their AQ.

The PNCLL teams have a some good squads, but I don't know if their current rankings are high enough to sneak in two.

The UMLL has 2 teams sitting very high, and the RMLC almost always sends two teams. Do the math there, because some very good teams are going to be out.

I don't think the PCLL, WCLL or GRLC has a chance to snag up an AL, but those are just my thoughts.

That will be a huge game for both teams to win. The outcome could really shake up the last regular season poll and possibly tourney seedings.

Right now, I'd say that Emory moves down maybe 2 spots and Elon moves up 2, basically switching places. That could all change once Emory gets to Dayton, though.

I will say this, beating three nationally ranked teams in three days is no easy task, so congrats to Elon. i hope the rep the SELC well while in Dallas.

I'm no official source, but based on the box scores and who notched and who didn't I would say both SJU and UST either didn't play some of their guys or limited them.

I would be shocked if UWEC could have held Strauss from SJU pointless. Same with many of the UST guys. I know for a fact that UST started a goalie for his first appearance of the year vs. UWEC.

I do think comparing a GVSU score vs. UWEC from several weeks ago to scores coming in leading up to the conf tournament with seeds already pretty apparent may not be the best way to look at things, but everyone has their methods.

Strauss didn't play. Neither did Bailey. And Brueske only played a quarter and a half. Just an FYI.

Charlotte is ranked #15 currently. (But all you voters out there feel free to move us up!)

I saw Creighton lost to Metro by about 7 or so. Where does this put them in the new poll? I'm having a hard time with the GRLC. Creighton and DePaul haven't faired as well as I would have thought. Harding has been solid for years and could certainly take the GRLC bid if they keep playing like they are.

That being said, I think we all know how the the GRLC tourney is usually pretty interesting. Does Creighton drop all the way out of the poll, or do they just hang on? What about Metro, do they make a move?

UMLL not done

Postby SharkAttack08 on Mon Apr 21, 2008 1:08 pm

Just wanted to point out that the UMLL is not finished and that SJU has two tough opponents coming up (UST and NDSU). Of course UST is good, but North Dakota State University seems to be highly improved this year. Not saying that they are better but it might be a good game on Wednesday. The UMLL has played out true to form this year with a lot of weird things happening. NDSU is young and their new coach (Cameron Pederson) has done a great job of putting that program on the right path. It would be nice to see NDSU play some bigger teams in the future so that they can at least get some top 25 votes.
