Who's Your New Top 5 in D1?

Here is my top 5...

1. UCSB
2. UCSB
3. UCSB
4. UCSB
5. UCSB

Just kidding, wanted to bring a smile to RBeast's face before we start another long winded discussion

As I see it now:

1. Michigan - undefeated, and a big win on the road in Provo.
2. Champan - still undefeated and taking care of business as planned
3. CSU - two solid W's vs. a top 5 team, and a top 15
4. UCSB - off to a great start still - quietly having a great year.
5./6 - I cant make up my mind - UMD - they are much better than many anticipated - a close loss to CSU, and a nice win over BC. Oregon - still undefeated and handling business as usual - we'll know more later.
7. BYU - I dont anticipate them to drop to many more - they are much younger than last year, and are still learning to play together with teh new faces...but they do have some challeging games coming up

And LMU just made our job harder by beating Florida.

I don't see UCSB above BYU... they lost a head to head match up, and if you put Michigan and Chapman at 1 and 2... then BYU probably fits in somewhere below them but above UCSB.

I agree. I don't see BYU above UCSB. If they lost to the two best teams, they should be #3 or #4.

Based on all the post so far - the forum would rank them this way:

So Michigan, Chapman, and CSU take 1,2,3 in total pts and average pts pre-voter.

However, Oregon, UMD, and BYU is interesting. Oregon gets more votes in the top 5 than UMD and BYU, but when people do vote for UMD and BYU they are ranked higher than Oregon.

UCSB Looks to be #7 in both total pts and average pts.

You are correct. I couldn't find the Utah-Missouri score up until right now. I think that was because they played in Florida and the info got put in after Monday morning of that week - and I didn't go back and look it up.

If they're truly #5, then they are expected to lose to CSU (who they lost to already) and Michigan (assuming Michigan is ranked #1). Does a loss to Michigan drop them lower than 5?

If you're a poll voter... and the #5 team loses close games to all four teams above them, do they drop?

As a non-poll voter (so take it for what it's worth) I say it depends on their scheduling. If you only scheduled Top 5 and the rest of your season is non-ranked, then you drop, and potentially if the scores are not close, you could drop significantly.

If you have a few games around #8-10 and another couple games around #12-14, then they would not drop as much, because I'd have additional chances to evaluate them. So if the loses in the Top 5 were close, then maybe 1 spot, if lopsided then 2 or 3 spots.

I think the answer is a very definite...... maybe. Seriously, I really don't think that anyone can answer that correctly. It falls right in the gray area where you have to judge the body of the rest of each team's work. You could make an argument either way.
