SuperBowl 42 post-game discussion

I'm going with the Pat's by 14. Brady's been there and it's going to come down to the QB's. Both teams are playing with a ton of confidence, but the Pats are just too loaded. All things considered, I think both D's will play fairly well with the Giants giving a couple big plays and 3rd downs. I'm going say the Pat's 31 to 17.

Normally I give the networks the benefit of the doubt but it was a rather dull telecast. The commercials were soooooooo lame, nothing exciting at all. Everyone is going for this wholesome approach now instead of the old comedy and shock value.

Also, I am burning my Tom Brady jersey. What have you done for me lately Tommy boy?? NOTHING!

I am no Joe Buck fan by any means whatsoever, but I actually found myself giving him some credit in the fourth quarter. He really let the crowd carry the audio as both the Patriots and the Giants drove, and I thought he did a (surprisingly) good job.

Great game. Fantastic fourth quarter. The play were Eli escaped and through the desperation pass and the receiver caught the ball against his helmet (while being mugged by the defender) will be one of the most replayed plays in SB history. I've seen it 5+ times now and I still don't know how he escaped from the pocked, nor how the receiver caught/controlled that ball without it touching the ground.

Oh and by the way......

1972 still rules!

I guess the broadcast problems I was having were regional then. The video was dropping out through much of the early 4th quarter and it seemed that they were switching from digital to analog to try to correct. The sound was delayed about 3 seconds for the last two drives of the game. But then, I don't exactly live in the most cosmopolitan of areas so it may have been the local affiliate dropping the ball.

I don't know if I'm prepared to live in a world where Eli is the Super Bowl MVP...

I'm excited that I never have to hear about the Pats supremecy, but I really wanted Mercury Morris to have to eat his words from earlier this season. I really can't decide if I'm happy or not with the outcome.

Unbelievable game to be at and I have no ties to either team. I will try to post some pictures later this week (maybe even a short video of Tom Petty from halftime).

I am a huge fan of the GoDaddy.com internet commercial with Danica Patrick. Even my girlfriend thought it was funny.

The Will Ferrell Bud Light commercial ("Bud Light, suck one") was pretty good, too.

Great 4th quarter. With all of the questions about Eli....he made the defining play in the biggest game. Not to take away anything from the catch, which was just as unbelivable. How the heck did he get out of that pocket? Did anyone else think that Eli looked a little a faster than he ever has last night?

That was an unbelieveable victory. Like Sonny said I can't see how other than with all of his will did Eli get out of the pocket when he had 4 defensive players drapped all over him. One of the best defensive showings I've watched in a long time. A defence that plays that well as a unit is really something to watch against such a high powered offense.

A few other things that were great...

Plex almost got the score right.
Osi Umenyiora post game on NFL network...pretty hillarious

I was just nice to watch a great game to end the football season. (Pro Bowl does not count as a great game)

My thoughts, after watching more of an actual Super Bowl than I think I ever had -
1) The Eli scramble and Tyree catch will be at least as big in Super Bowl annals as "The Catch" by Clark for the 'Niners". That was a 3rd and 5 play, and if they didn't make that, who knows??
2) Eli continued his superb play in the post-season. The pick was certainly not his fault, and he was virtually mistake-free. I assume he got the MVP nod? (Didn't stick around for that stuff).
3) While Eli burnished his reputation, the real credit for the victory should go to the Giants defensive line and then the offensive line. Brady was harrassed like never before - I think I heard he was sacked 5 times and knocked down like 18 more! He was definitiely rattled. In the second half, even when he had some time several of his passes were WAY off the mark. The final scoring drive was the only time he looked to have it together, and the Giants weren't getting to him. The last drive though they re-composed themselves and were bringing the heat.
On the other side, Eli was rarely threatened in the pocket, and when he was, he made the Miracle in the Desert. Hats off to him.
4) Has anyone ever seen a challenge flag thrown for having too many men on the field? I wonder if one of BB's hidden cameras picked that up!
5) I have to admit, the Giants had their doubters all season long, and probably still do! Absolutely unbelievable road record this season.
6) How much credit will be given to Tom Coughlin's tunaround in approach to his team - going from the biggest hard-ass of all time to a little more touchy-feely? "Aw, let's go bowling instead of watching film!"
7) I wonder how Vegas did (not Knox Vegas) with the huge upset and blowing away the over/under of 54 on the bottom side?
8) I thought I saw Don Shula doing a little "happy dance" somewhere!

Now the withdrawals set in....

Just nitpicking but "The Catch" actually happened in the NFC Championship game and sent the 49ers to the Super Bowl where they beat the Bengals...the first time.

Amen. We actually came very close to seeing the Eli we know and love but Asante Samuel can't catch. Justin Tuck made a strong case for MVP on my score sheet.

4) Has anyone ever seen a challenge flag thrown for having too many men on the field?

I saw it at least once this season if not more often than that.
