Non MCLA teams in WCLL Territory

Non MCLA teams in WCLL Territory

Postby BigheadTodd on Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:00 pm

Someone asked in another forum if Fresno State had a team. My question, are there any non-MCLA and non-NCAA teams in the area? What is Dominican? Does USF or SFSU have a team?

Yes, there are several teams in california and arizona that are not WCLL but have teams. Dominican University is in San Rafael, California. They are hoping to go NCAA DII in 09-10, I believe. Right now their schedule consists of WCLL teams such as Stanford, Cal, Biola, Occidental; it also consists of NCAA teams such as Whittier and Notre Dame de Namur while they build up their squad. Grand Canyon University in Phoenix is in its first year as a program, but has the same hopes as Dominican. In Socal, two teams that are brand new this year are Azusa Pacific University, and Concordia University-Irvine. I would expect them to petition to MCLA D2 next year.

I have seen some City Colleges with teams. I remember seeing Orange County City College with a team a few years ago. I have also heard some stuff around Santa Barbara about Santa Barbara City College putting together a men's and women's team.

Marymount College, a private 2-year institution in Palos Verdes, CA, started a team this year.
Also, Long Beach State has had a team in recent years.

UC Merced has about 20-25 guys starting a team, all freshman. School has been around about 4 years and is growing every year and will eventually get to 25K students. Fresno State does not have a team, but will have a D1 womens team next year.

They are very young still and I believe have only mens and womens soccer as club programs (no varsity sports yet I don't think). 3rd year of school existence with currently 1800 students. The school is really pushing club sports, and payed for helmets, pads, gloves, goals, etc... Only problem was they ordered junior gloves and arm pads ooooppppsssssss.
