Who is the Best in the NFC/AFC?

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

OK the Pac 10 honk in me has to question the direction this thread has taken, Isaiah Stanback? Seriously?

He's a career 50% completion passer in college, is that going to translate to be better than Romo's 66.4% career completion mark? I just don't get it. He is a hell of an athlete, but better than Romo? As starter at UW, Stanback had a record of 6-12 and in games that he played quarterback they were 6-17. I just don't see the credentials there to be put on the same plane as Romo. I'll allow myself to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it.

This Weeks Top 5...

AFC
1. New England - not dominant through the air, but the ground game was solid and they showed they can win under any circumstance
2. Indianopolis - 5 years with at least 12 wins, awesome
3. Jacksonville - Great performance on the ground and through the air against the steelers. Watch out for this team in the playoffs, they can run on anyone, in the snow or in the warm weather.
4. Pittsburgh - not looking great, but still has the potential to be a factor in the playoffs.
5. San Diego - It is amazing what happens when you give the best player in the league the football = wins

NFC
1a. Dallas - very bad, frustrating, ugly performance by the offense, but the defense looked a lot better than it did in the previous few weeks.
1b. Green Bay - Continues to win and look good doing it. They are going to be on Dallas' heals all year for Home field.
3. Tampa Bay - Nice win against a bad win. They are a complete team when Garcia is in the game, without him, they are avg
4. Seattle - Lost to Carolina and Matt Moore - That is Pathetic.
5. Minnesota - Putting it together and is a team that I do not want my cowboys facing in the playoffs. They win despite three turnovers by their QB.

I've said all I am going to say about Stanback. But Romo, who is being praised here by many Cowboys fans just laid a pretty big egg in the home loss to the Eagles: 23 incompletions, 3 interceptions and a 22.0% QB rating. The guy has played pretty well most of the regular season, I'll admit, but he has done nothing yet in the post-season to warrant such passionate adulation from the Texas faithful, and we shall see which TR shows up in January.

Personally, I'm rooting for Jessica Simpson to show up again in her pink Romo jersey for the playoffs and jinx her boyfriend yet again, who might repeat Sunday's pathetically bad performance when it really counts.

Yep, I am a Cowboys-hater. If the Seahawks don't find a running game soon I guess I'll have to root for GB to earn the rights to get demolished by the Pats in the Super Bowl, instead.

Dan,

Then as a Seahawks fan, you would have to admit that Romo played a pretty good game last year in the Wild Card playoff round. The thing that people only remember about that game is that he fumbled the snap on the potential game winning field goal. But, if you look back at his game as QB, then you will remember that in the first playoff game of his career, on the road, in one of the best Home fields in the league, he played a pretty good game. Romo put the Cowboys in position to win the game. Yes he dropped the snap, but good thing for Cowboys fans, he does not have that responsibility anymore. And even though he dropped the snap, he was a yard from the end zone when he was shoe string tackled from behind.

I know that Romo is still a young QB, but from what I have seen of him last year and this year, I will take it.

Odd, you don't have at least three teams that will make the playoffs (or control their own destiny) on your list and two teams that will probably miss the playoffs.

How can you put the Vikings at number 9 when they just got rolled by the Redskins at home and a guy named Tavaris Jackson is prominantly involved?

Same with the inclusion of the Browns over the Titans, though there might be a little more room for an argument there depending on whether Haynesworth is playing or not for the Titans.

But the most glaring omission is Tampa Bay. Being in the area for the holidays and without my blessed Sunday Ticket, I was forced to suffer through the Bucs v. 49ers matchup so I know that while the 49ers may have won on the scoreboard it was because the Bucs played their starters for only the 1st quarter or so. This of course led to a whopping 3 fantasy points for me from Graham but that is beside the point.

My 12:
1. Patriots
2. Colts
3. Cowboys
4. Jaguars
5. Packers
6. Bucs
7. Seahawks
8. Chargers
9. Steelers
10. Redskins
11. Titans
12. Giants

Yes, I will concede that Romo played pretty well in that game, just as I have conceded that he is a good young QB who will likely only get better. It's the toughest position to play in all of sports, and so much is riding on the QB's shoulders week in and week out. We'll see if TR can lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

I'll go further in saying that the Cowboys are the class of the NFC, easily this division's best team in 2007. But you know what? Dallas doesn't "scare me" at all. They can and might be beaten in the NFC Championship game -- or even the week before. Seattle, as inconsistent as we have been all year, is but one team capable of knocking them off.

And whoever does emerge as the NFC champ will still get beaten by the Pats...

PS Quietly, Hasselbeck has put together an MVP year himself up here. For a team with virtually no running game our QB has played his best football ever, despite taking a real pounding while doing so.

Dan,

You are right about the cowboys, especially right now. TO has a high ankle sprain, and whether you like him or not, him possibly being out in the Divisional round of the playoffs will hurt this team. It would make the starting WR Sam Hurd, Patrick Crayton. That doesn't scare anyone. If TO doesn't play in the divisional round, expect a good dose of Marion the Barbarian to the tune of 20 carries.

The Cowboys will have a tough road ahead of them, but I like their chances

Hasselback has had a good year.

I just got in on the last page with the Romo discussions, and have to say he made a believer out of me this year. One stat I heard the other day that is impressive is that he has a quicker average release time than the other historic standard bearer - Dan Marino - and that is saying a lot!
Quick read, quick release - hard to stop.
That being said, I think there are three AFC teams better than the NFC - I'd put Jax at #3. I'm not convinced on Pittsburgh, I'd move them behind San Diego right now (as I now see that Cliff did) - and I feel the same about Seattle.
I think it's another Super Bowl* win* for the Patriots**.

*If I hear any more whining about stealing signs I think I'll puke.

WOW...

I was in a Nyquil drowziness state when I posted that... That was the worst list ever...

Revised Top 12
1. New England - Still obviously the best team in the league
2. Indianapolis - Anthony Gonzales turned out to be a great pick for them as he and Peyton have found some chemistry
3. Cowboys - I am nervous about the TO injury, but still think they have enough
4. Jacksonville - Best running game in the league
5. Green Bay - to quote the great John Madden "Brett Farve"
6. San Diego - Give LT the ball
7. Seattle - Which Seattle team shows up is the question
8. Tampa Bay - With Jeff Garcia good, without, Bad
9. Pittsburgh - Can Najeh Davenport be the Answer - we shall see
10. New York - Give the ball to Brandon Jacobs and the Giants will have a chance
11. Cleveland - Great offense, bad defense, need some help to get into the playoffs.
12. Washington - Can make the playoffs, but even with multiple Cowboys Starters sitting out, I think the Cowboys win.

Sorry about posting under the influence
