Of course I had to google webkinz and club penguin. Never heard of either of them. I would have guessed a few other items would have been on there.

Duncan Hunter said during the CNN/YouTube debate that American parents should avoid buying their kids any toys made in China and should rather help America and American jobs by buying only those made in the good ol' U.S. of A. Sounds great, and since we all want to be good patriots, I'd like to heed his advice myself this year.

But the trouble is, well, I have some children I'm shopping for on my holiday list and visited ToysRUs a couple months ago. Everything they sell seems to be made in China -- there virtually are no American-made toys -- or at least not any that the kids I know would play with. All the hot, requested items were assembled you-know-where.

Any advice from you parents with tots out there? Please list some American-made toys that are popular -- and thanks!

You're right Dan, seem to be the case for most items. I looked last week as well. There are a few sites out there dedicated to American toys. Nothing fantastically electronic, but some solid throw backs can be found.
I guess a lot of the American toys are making a strong come back this season. Most are really busy, so if you want something order soon.

I know for a fact that the Ultimate Marshmellow Shooter is made right here in the good ole US of A. Bought one two days ago for the nephew.

Dan, we also like the Vermont Toy Company. They are hand made wooden toys and they are very well crafted. I'm really not sure of the lead time though.

If you're looking for an American made educational toy, a wooden Abacus is about all I could find.

Playmobil stuff is made in Germany...At least it's not Chinese, and I used to love that stuff when I was a kid...

I've heard the argument that "Buy American" is actually un-American. The logic is that America is based on capitalism: people buy the best product they can for the cheapest price. Thus, to buy a more expensive car which you believe to be inferior to a cheaper Japanese car runs counter to the principles of capitalism!
