LONDON - It was once scientific heresy to suggest that smoking contributed to lung cancer. Now, another idea initially dismissed as nutty is gaining acceptance: the graveyard shift might increase your cancer risk.

Next month, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the cancer arm of the World Health Organization, will classify shift work as a "probable" carcinogen.

That will put shift work in the same category as cancer-causing agents like anabolic steroids, ultraviolet radiation, and diesel engine exhaust.

Let's get some legislation in order to protect bartenders and servers who have to work late! Install sun simulators in every restaurant. We must protect the health of people who chose this profession!

I figure I will sooner die of liver failure from staying up late rather than cancer from staying up late. And I get to have more fun doing so.

After working 7p-7a in the hospital for 2years (over 4,160 hours logged) i am happy to say that I am on days. So does my risk decrease now that I am on days? Or now am I at risk for another type of disease, like Heart Dz, having to drive in traffic.
