Whether I think we should or not doesn't change the fact that a lot of these countries do inhumane things, and shouldn't because it is wrong.

The issue I brought up isn't whether or not we should go around changing countries, that's another issue. These countries that everyone loves to defend because right now it's cool to hate America...are more bassakward than is cared to be noticed.

America fixed a lot of its problems (slavery, women's voting, etc)...but does that mean everyone sits around watching bad stuff go down because it's "not our business". The name currently escapes me, (but whatever it's called when there's a robbery in the middle of a busy city and no one stops to do anything about it)....can apply globally too.

Are you kidding me? At what point did I ever say that? At what point did this topic go from "Bowing Down to Islam" to "What's the worst thing in the world you can think of lolz!"?

Stay on topic or start a new one.

I prefer this thread not get Kevin Bacon-ed.

Beta, I agree with you on the issue of women's rights in regards to this discussion. Some of the questions that need to be asked are is it going to change? Do they recognize the problem (hillbillies don't realize they're hillbillies)? Why do so many women defend these "outrages" in Saudi Arabia for example? We could go on and on...............The berka is seen and used as the symbol in the West of repressed women. However, many women defend the wearing of the berka.

It really seems to be an educational and exposure issue. A woman is gang raped, yet she is imprisoned and beat to death? Huh? Where's the logic in this? She should have been out with a man right?

Yeah a lot of people see the burka as a symbol of repression. Both sides of it are understandable be it religious or cultural...but I think everyone (in their right state of mind) can agree that women should be able to wear or not wear it if they should choose without fear of violence.

It's pretty sickening.

So after the press conference today in Anapolis, Can we actually believe that Palestine and Israel are looking to peaceful relations?

I will believe it when I see it.

Saudis were responsible for 9/11. Don't tell GW that. They are our allies, and as such, we should treat them with respect and not try to change what goes on in their society. We should worry more about Hugo Chavez. That guy is a menace.

sohot, you and I both know that Saddam himself flew those planes, only to eject at the last minute and with the power of SATAN himself teleport back to his brothel in Iraq.

Oh a more serious note, what do the conservatives have to say about using women's rights as an excuse to go into Afghanistan and Iraq, but when it comes to the oil rich and gringo-friendly Saudis, we play nice? You can't possibly tell me it's not all about oil at this point in the game.

Wow, that was totally off topic. Sorry.

It's always been about oil, it's just becoming more and more obvious each day.

While the people over there (that are sane) will want peace...I guarantee (and hopefully am wrong) that some wacked-out faction will bomb something or do something awful...in the name of their religion of peace...because mmmm contradictions are fun.

Oil? Who said something 'bout Oil...you cooking?

Is it really about freedom and democracy?

Talk about bowing down. Let's continue down the current path of increased fossil fuel consumption without actual foresight from the current leadership about conserving, altering our course and or investment in what we know will (or at least could be in the very near future) be a huge economy in the future. Why not stand up and take bold initiatives for change related to our "oil independence"? Sure as heck would alleviate a lot of our foreign policy issues and concerns.

Why not enact these measures now or fight for the Kyoto Protocol? Well, we have to give oil companies time to get their act together right? Here's a theory. I think the US should rapidly increase the use of oil, and I mean exponentially. We use our oil more efficiently than anyone!! In other words let's go the other way. Lets not remain the world leader in producing ideas and resource use. We should squander our position in the new economy and global chess game. Maybe we already have by making a long term agreement to have a large presence in the Middle East.

I also think the teddy bear should be stoned for allowing himself to be called Muhammad and for not covering up.

A pupil of the teacher leapt to her defence yesterday.

The seven-year-old said he suggested the name – after HIMSELF, not the Islamic prophet.

And he says he would be upset if jailed Gillian Gibbons never came back to teach at Unity High School in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The lad, who spells his name Mohammad, said: “The teacher asked what I wanted to call the teddy. I said Mohammad, after my name.”

He added that most of his class agreed with his choice and described Gillian, of Liverpool, as a “very nice” teacher who never mentioned religion in class.

His mum added: “I’m annoyed that this has escalated in this way. If it happened as he said, then there is no problem here – it was not intended.”

15 days in prison for the Teddy Bear Teacher and deportation. No lashes. How quaint.
