**Update**

Apparently Miami-Dade Police have a suspect in the murder. As a die hard Skins fan, this is a sad day and a terrible tragedy. 24 years old...

He leaves behind a one-year old daughter. In Gibbs' press conference yesterday, all he talked about was how much Taylor loved his little girl. It is just sad all the way around.

Cue the "guns don't kill people" argument...

I feel sorrow for a little girl that lost her father.

This is a terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the Taylor family and the Skins family.

yah, a good friend of mine was sexually assaulted in england four months ago, the buzzing siren alarm keychain she carried had no responders... at least she only had to wait in line two months to get to see a psychiatrist about her problems sleeping at night...

... do guns cause violence or does violence cause guns

it would be harder to accidently shoot yourself if you didn't own a gun... at the same time our football player would still have passed since he did not own a gun to use on our intruder... gun control only makes sure victims don't have some to fight back with...

"This article by Rutgers University professor Dr. Goertzel offers sound advice regarding statistical analysis: "When presented with an econometric model, consumers should insist on evidence that it can predict trends in data other than the data used to create it. Models that fail this test are junk science, no matter how complex the analysis."

numerous countries have gun carry rate at or higher than the US but do not have the violence, we would be violent regardless of guns... they never cite those countries in their studies... I wonder why?

"these researchers found a much stronger correlation between firearm homicides and car ownership"

gun control studies are flawed, correlation is not causation, and there is no real way to prove america would be better off, I am still looking for the control group in the study, and there are probably a couple of confounds they won't take into consideration because it doesn't objectively prove the point they want

So if Sean Taylor owned a gun, he wouldn't have been killed. Is that what you guys are trying to get at?

Confused how this thread turned into a 2nd amendment debate.

Sean Taylor was killed tragically by a criminal, no one is making the argument that guns belonged in his hands. To suggest that Sean Taylor was somehow at fault for this, or imply it through 2nd amendment argumentation is poor taste at best. Sean Taylor also did not have a gun at the scene, so making an argument for or against guns is completely senseless and off the point.

This is a tragic day in sports, and especially football. One of its greatest current athletes was killed in his own home for no reason other than cold blood. Taylor's death will leave a hole in the Redskins' organization that may not be filled for years to come and in friends' and families' lives forever.

The argument for and against gun control comes into play when law abiding citizens abuse the rights of gun ownership. Someone who is invading someone's home in the middle of the night is not a law-abiding citizen and therefore this is not the time or place for gun control debate.

Sean Taylor will be missed, it may be some time before the sports world realizes just how significant this event is.

Also, the name of this thread is misleading, this was murder in the 1st degree, plain and simple. There was no gentle passing, no euphemism can console the pain that this crime has caused. I apologize to whoever created this thread, I just find the word choice upsetting.

He did have a machete by his bed. I saw that mentioned somewhere on ESPN.com.

I saw it coming so I just helped it along. Everyone is free to push their own agenda.

As for the comment of laws don't stop people from breaking them, the current administration has brought that home all too clear over the past seven years.

Machete or gun, Taylor had no chance as the police have described the incident.

No gun allowed in the house because he was on probation... hence the machete.

no, you started this... I didn't want the tragic death of an individual to become an apologist gun control battle cry because I believe the exact opposite (and it is just that, a belief) and it is during this tragic events that people start talking about how they think guns are bad...

I am not saying a gun would have saved his life... I know for me though that I would like to have reasonable means of home protection... I don't want to carry a gun on the street or at my school, just in my house... I think criminals are going to commit crime regardless of guns and I would like to go down swinging...
