I've noticed that all the coaches now hold their charts over their faces when making calls - probably because they know during film review the next day someone is trying to read lips.

I've noticed that happening in NCAA football, too, for instance, I was watching a little bit of the Texas-UCF game last Saturday, and the camera was panning on Mack Brown. He kept his fingers over his mouth and his mic. I noticed that at one point, he was talking to his QB and his assistant where he was scratching his face, but I figured he was actually trying to cover his mouth.

It's too bad....and we wonder why football coaches are paranoid about saying anything to the press. Either way, after New England's thumping of San Diego, I think the players and coach proved cheating is not the reason for success (not excusing it).

It proves nothing of the sort. How do you know that they weren't reading the San Diego defensive alignments based on illegal videotaping from last year's playoffs?

And even if it didn't make a difference in yesterday's game, we don't know how the cheating contributed to past success, nor do we know if they were cheating in other ways yesterday.

You can't prove a negative.

You are correct. I should clarify. It proves that the in-game taping did not necessarily provide an advantage for the current game.

Thank you for that clarification.
