The rankings looked a little screwed up to me. I am not sure how teams get enough points in one poll to be strongly considered yet no love in the other poll.

This weeks intriguing matchups for me are:
TCU/Air Force (call me a homer, but we will see if this is the TCU that lost to SMU and still soared or the TCU that lost to Tech and forgot the rest of the season)
Michigan State/Pitt (is MSU the best team in Michigan and maybe a darkhorse to finish in the top 3 in the Big 10 or is it time for Dave Wannstedt to break out)
Tenn/Florida (Tennessee needs to make a statement)
Ohio State/Washington (Washington wins and you really have to wonder if Notre Dame would be 0-2)
Arkansas/Bama (should be a very good SEC game, with the winner likely going to the Cotton Bowl)
USC/Nebraska (Bill Callahan might be on the hot seat after this game)
Duke/Northwestern (oops, this is not an academic competition)
BC/Georgia Tech (this will be a very good game played by good teams)

Pillow Fight:
Michigan/Notre Dame (one team will be 1-2 and can say we beat a rival, but then again that does not say much this year)

I never pay attention to contract extensions. How many coaches do you know that completely fulfill their contracts? Contract extensions give coaches credibility on the recruiting trail. I have seen too many coaches get an extension a year before getting fired.

UCF's first game in the new on-campus stadium this week against Texas. I won't be happy to see the $1mil they paid to UT get flushed down the drain... but until then I'll be thinking:

Most contracts have something in them with first guaranteed money in them so if they get fired they will still be paid. and with that the school has a buy-out clause to where if the coach leaves he will have to pay a butt load of money to get out of his contract.

this is why a lot of the hot seat talk is usually wrong because the school cannot afford to fire the coach and then also hire another big time coach.

Plus they have to keep paying for former AD Joel Maturi's contract after he was fired for gross incompetence.

What's that? He's still the AD there? You've got to be kidding me!

The contracts have guaranteed money, but the nice thing is that the contract is voided once the coach signs a new contract. Mason's expires after this year. I can't remember Munson's contract details. The thing is when you fire a high profile coach like Weis or Callahan they often sign with a different team for usually more money, and thus voiding their previous contract. Those guys don't want to quit coaching, and they will work to find a new job quickly. Finally, how many coaches do you know that actually get fired? The number has grown, but most coaches still resign before they are fired which means there is usually a buyout for the University.

Kind of interesting to hear the same discussion taking place with DI football that we are hearing about DI lax.......parity. A whole lot of athletes and the same amount of schools.

Really doubtful. The husker fan base is always really critical with what happens with the team. I dont see Coach Callahan's job being in jeopardy over this game. Especially since it is the number one team as of now. Also, he did get a nice little contract extension.
