Whether he gets off of this charge or not...is his career done from this?

Indictment

Postby ME on Fri Jul 20, 2007 11:17 am

After reading the 18 page indictment it seems to me that the Feds have more than enough information to convict Vick on all the charges. If any one is interested here is the link to the actual 18 page indictment. It goes into a lot of detail on a bunch of occasions where Vick was involved in dog fighting/dog executions:

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/ye ... vick1.html

After reading it, you can definitely come to the conclusion that he was funding/overseeing the entire operation and, I assume, it will very difficult from him to say he knew nothing about it...

Shouldn't the NFL suspend Vick? I mean seriously, he is being indicted on some serious charges, Gooddell (sp?) suspended 'Pac-Man' Jones for an entire season, and he was never even charged with anything!

Um, no. He should not be suspended. Where have you been the last 1 1/2 years? Remember the last time a group of individuals had their academic, personal and athletic lives ruined? He may be guilty as sin, but it needs to be proven. The commish is not an idiot and will not risk suspending a player who has no prior convictions/arrests/etc.

So you think Goodell's move of forbidding Vick to attend practice is his way of tip-toeing around suspension?
Personally I don't think he should have done anything. Not only has Vick not been convicted, but he hasn't even gone to court yet (I could understand a suspension if Vick had to attend lengthy court proceedings - it would obviously distract him from team obligations).
Could you imagine if MLB followed this same procedure? Half the players would be suspended on steroid suspicion alone.

Agreed. The NFL is setting a dangerous precedent. Vick might have been an idiot and if proven guilty deserves everything he gets, but until then, let us respect our constitution and let justice run its course.

Is it ignorance or stupidy that has allow Goodell to make this move on the heels of Duke abandoning its students when they were charged with a crime. Now which was more of a PR nightmare, the actual charges, or the fact one of my favorite universities did not have the courage to back their own students in times of adversity?

Vick lied directly to the Commish about his involvement. That is usually good enough to get you fired from a normal job.

If I'm Blank, I'm handing Vick his walking papers. Guilty or not, Vick has brought shame to himself and the franchise.

You can't compare this with Duke abandoning the players. Most schools, Duke included, have rules that a student is automatically suspended should they be arrested/indicted (language may vary) for a felony. I believe the league is well within their rights to suspend Vick without pay until this matter is resolved. Aren't their clauses in the standard player's contract protecting ownership in just these sorts of situations?

I agree that Vick lied to management about his involvement, or lack thereof. In that Ron Mexico is the guy that has filled the seats, They won't push the issue beyond the League's position (first offense, not really applicable under the recent repeat offender rule). IMO nothing short of a boycott will have the Falcons suspend him.

The "fans" of Atlanta boycotted the Falcons games for decades before Vick arrived. Just ask any Hotlanta resident how many home games they remember watching the Falcons play in person or on TV growing up.

As for Goodell, he is doing the right thing. Whether or not Vick is guilty, the alleged illegal actions occured on Vick's property. Bad judgement is something that the NFL is trying to make their players aware of and that their negative actions reflect not only on themselves but also upon their team, teammates and the league. Then again, that is my take on this. What do I know.

I disagree Hugh. I think he has played his last game in a Falcons uniform. Arthur Blank was ready to suspend him for four games before the league got involved. If he is found guilty, the Falcons will look to recoup some of his big contract money through insurance.

Admittedly, I have not been researching this topic extensively. I really hope you are right, Sonny. The whole "Primetime" attitude that seems to pervade professional sports is a huge part of why I prefer to watch college athletics over pro. It also makes more extraordinary the accomplishments of true teams in the pros...such as the Detroit Pistons dismantling the Lakers a few years ago.
