If coach Carl is happy with that season from a program as established as Sonoma, wow, they sure had my fooled the past 8 years. I hope they can get back to their old wining ways.
That is where I was coming from witht that comment. I should throw in the players as well. I know they cannot be happy with this season.

And I will stop as soon AS THEY BEAT SOMEBODY! I made the comment right after the CSU game, that I will "eat my words" when they get past the second round of Nationals because they will have beaten somebody in the top 8
No order. All of these teams have a much more impressive resume.
BYU
CSU
OREGON
BC
Arizona
CU
UCSB
Next comes NE, UMD, ASU. I would have kept ASU ahead of them but the CSU game is tough to overlook. And NE did just beat UMD. This brings up the value of consolation games and I don't want to get into that. So I could agree with #8.
But it doesn't matter! We can start this all over again next Feb!
I have no problem with your thoughts on UMD being a #8. But my support for them, is there isn't to many teams that have played the top 3 teams (all that were ranked #1 at sometime) and gave them all, all they could handle. Not that they got lucky and caught 1 of those teams on a bad night. They played them all to the hills.
And they shut down the Oregon offense after a terrible 1st quarter.
No excuse for the losses to lesser teams. They are close, and getting closer, and getting closer pretty fast.
I think you are one that just doesn't like UMD. Last year you probably said "they aren't legit until they win in the first round." Now it is the quarter finals. And the win was against a garbage team? I don't think any teams in the nationals are garbage. Some maybe weaker, but not garbage.
Also, for CatLax, I agree with your take. Any team has a shot to get in at large if they step it up. But for some leagues, it is a huge step up. Realistically, there are only a few leagues that are sending multiply teams.

"Like" has nothing to do with it. You just said we could agree on #8. So how am I basing them or disliking them?
I said that Sonoma was garbage COMPARED TO OTHER SONOMA TEAMS. You are right, there were no garbage teams at nationals.
And your quoting me on what I probably said? I have tooted the same horn all year long. When they beat a top 10 team (which they haven't done yet) Then they deserve top 5 talk. That is why I am curious to see who they play next year, and who they can coax from that up and coming mini-lacrosse hotbed known as the Twin Cities to stay in state.

All I can say is that UMD is a legit team this year. If I had to rank them, I'd have them #5 or #6, with that spot possibly flip flopped with BC or Northeasterm.

Bottomline is they beat your team and all you can do is say that they beat your team when they sucked. Or that they didn't beat your team or any team when they were top 5.
If Sonoma was so garbage why didn't they stay home and give another team the invite?
If you want to go back to good Sonoma teams. Didn't UMD take Sonoma to a 1 goal game a few years ago when Sonoma was #1? (I believe you said and I will quote "THIS was the first year UMD was competitive on a national level." Did you forget about that year?)
No, they haven't beat a top five team. And when they do, it will probably be a over-ratted top 5 team, right?

Sonoma is NOT my team, they just had a very down year for them. That's all I am saying. Lets stop the Sonoma banter (i know i brought it up) They were #11 going into the tournament and you beat them. Congratulations (not being sarcastic) End of story.
Yes UMD did take SSU to OT, but then lost to UCSD team the next day (or something like that). TO ME, this is the first year Duluth was competitive (a top 10 team) day in and day out.
Maybe competitive wasn't the best word to use, i should have used Top 10.
This is getting ridiculous, lets stop this. Great year for Duluth, best in recent history i would say. I don't doubt next year will be even better for you.

I've watched Duluth this year and they are legit. I did stats at the game against Oregon and they could have rolled over and died, but they showed a ton of heart and fought back. I think they are better than CU and for sure BC. They are 4-5-6 area cause i think a game against UCSB could go either way and they already proved they can play with BYU, CSU, and Oregon. I have seen all of them play this year and UMD is good.

2007 UMD is the greatest team to never win a big game.
Before the vengeful attacks surface, think about the statement, come up with an honest answer to yourself and the people who read this and respond in kind. If there are big games that they won and I overlooked them, my apologies. If not, well. Find Justin Combs. He'll have you winning the world games wearing roller skates.

They did beat Sonoma, a team that won the national championship 5 years ago. That counts. You're such a bitter man Mandible.

This year has been something special, something I am very proud of for UMD. For the first time in our teams history, we won a first round game at nationals, we also proved to ourselves that we can play with anyone (ie BYU, CSU, and Oregon). For the people that say we didn't beat a top ten team, remember we only played 1,2, and 3 from the top ten, and yes we lost, but we lost by a goal or two. A win is a win, but this team knows that and will be working hard this offseason to make sure they get that win. UMD loses 4 seniors this year, and has a great recruiting class coming in next year. I will be very excited as an alumni to see what this team can do.
I want to thank everyone in the MCLA for making this experience possible, because this whole league has been a great part of my life.
