Of course they're trying to sensationalize the story, it's a newspaper. Perhaps also giving some sort of comparison for how drunk he was as opposed to saying "he had alcohol in his system".

how about...sensationalize it and cast the deceased in a not so flattering light

drunk

Its a case of an 18 year old getting drunk and crazy in private because he can't be in a bar. The fact that its illegal to drink for over half of most peoples college experience creates this under aged subculture of partiers. Often they spend there time drinking with other underaged kids and the stupidity of people in large groups grows almost exponetcially. If the kid was in a bar where there are trained people to prevent this he and many other kids between the ages of 18-20 would be alive. All prosecuting someone in this case would do is scare a few people from having large parties. Its not going to stop underaged drinking its just going to hide it a little bit more. Its just tragic and dumb. Its an immature mistake, all of us have made them but most of us don't pay for them with our lives just our dignity.

Amen! (though I think ol' gobbler may have the patent on the word "exponetcially") Cases like this should be front page evidence of the failure of the government's policy of alcohol prohibition to 18 year olds. Underage drinkers try to pack as much bang for the buck as they can into "preparties" etc because they are ridiculously excluded from drinking in controlled situations. Never mind that universities are forced to handle two populations of students who are subject to different laws.

I agree that using the phrase "twice the legal limit" was nothing but cheap sensationalist journalism. We're talking 0.16 here ladies and gentlemen, hardly black out level intoxication or otherwise life threatening. I too would like to know if there were any witnesses to learn exactly what happened. Undoubtedly, alcohol played a factor in this accident but you would think it was the sole cause of the tragedy from the reporting.
