I don't think the suspects should be charged with anything more than vandalism. I would be surprised if Boston didn't have ordinances in place regulating the placement of advertisements, if they allow them on public property at all. If the devices were placed on private property, then they are also guilty of trespassing. Think about the stress bomb squads have to endure even when the devices they investigate turn out to be nothing more than a jumble of LEDs. Not to mention that emergency personnel put themselves at risk when they get in their vehicles and have to speed out into the city during rush hour. Emergency personnel respond to life threatening situations all the time, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were a little upset over the whole incident. It seems like the ad agency could have avoided this by notifying the city in advance. In the end it was not a big deal, but giving a press conference mocking the situation is in poor taste I think. No one made them step up to the microphones and talk.

Needless to say they seem to be having fun with the overkill.

Time Warner to pay 2 million dollars in a premptive settlement.

"As part of the settlement, $1 million will be used to reimburse the agencies and $1 million will be used to pay for homeland security and other programs."

Hopefully that money will be spent more effectively than the money it's meant to replace.

So Time warner pays some pocket change for the Lite Brite advertisements, then someone calls in a bomb scare, then they pony up $2M in settlement and probably get more publicity for the movie than almost any other way imaginable. How much would a regular major marketing campaign cost?

My other question is, who called in the bomb scare?

Oaks, whenever I drive down the street and see something odd I immediately think it's a bomb. I am also very paranoid and collect my goodies in jars like Howard Hughes.

I believe it was an MBTA (subway/commuter rail agency) employee who saw the first one in Sullivan Sqare.

The general manager of the Cartoon Network resigned today as the fallout continues to grow from a botched guerilla marketing campaign that sparked a series of bomb scares last week in Boston.
