with the league realigned and teams moving up and down, does anybody think there will be any new rivalries between A and B division teams....or what will be the hot rivalry inside each division.
there is always going to be oregon against SFU....last year we had UW as our rivalry and now it appears we stacked against western this year. what do you guys think???

Rivalries seem to stem from competetive games and geographic location, so its very tough to tell this early in the season. I always wanted to play my best against UW and Whitman, and those games were usually fairly close.... I'll never forget Dylan Meyers and UW, in Husky stadium beating us 11-9, and I'll never forgive him for it either. Still makes it tough for me to cheer for Husky sports.

UW-PLU 2002
Kyle I still have the video of that crazy game -- we were called for over 20 penalties I think and spent the whole first half at least one man-down. It shall be forever etched in memory for the referee on his hands and knees before the game measuring our crease and assessing the "death" penalty because the Husky Stadium maintenance crew measured the crease from the inside of the line rather than the outside edge.
PLU had beaten us like three straight years going into that game, and both teams wanted it so badly that night. The Lutes made Husky Stadium sound like a home field, you definitely had more folks in the stands than we did that night. These are the games that great rivalries are born of, and I still really "get up" for the PLU-UW game. Tomorrow at 4:00 can't get here soon enough!

Kyle,
Those of us who played at Whitman always looked at you guys (PLU) as our rivals. Ever since my freshman year in '99, when you guys beat us in overtime of the playoffs with a ground ball that somehow trickled into our goal, I never, ever wanted to lose to you guys again. Add to that the fact that in the seven or eight games we played against you guys in my four years, it was always a close game, and I think it's safe to say that this was a pretty good rivalry. Of course, we did finally get some revenge on you guys in Tacoma a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly.
Whoever said UW is everyone's rival, I sort of have to agree. At Whitman, it was no different. I'm sure Dan remembers the upset we nearly pulled in '02 when UW went undefeated in the regular season, with Brooks' scorcher that came at the end of a trick play. I think we lost that one in OT. Then again, he also probably remembers the 22-3 whipping UW received at Whitman in '99....

Emil, we also always wanted to beat Whitman at PLU.... and I was actually involved in that ball that trickled into the goal.... I throw the bad pass that put it on the ground! My co-coach actually put in the game winner, Kris Johnson... You did get some payback a few years ago Tacoma.
I hate to say it though... I hate every team I play against. You're against me, not with me. That doesn't mean I'll try to hurt you, but at UPS, I want everyone to hate the opponent. PLU, WWU, WU, LU, Montana, CWU, L&C, every game should be played with some passion.

Last year at CWU, we kind of viewed Evergreen State as our rivals and when we beat them at the Lewis & Clark Tourney this last fall, it was ever so sweet- but now they're gone and so it seems we can only hope for some great, epic, games against WWU in the future. Even though we aren't in the same division, it would be great to get something going with the Vikings.

Dave, I couldn't agree more. This loss is exactly what we have needed. As much as I hate to say it, I think the preseason polls gave us the wrong attitude. The Loggers came out to win, and played a great game. Between Kyle's scouting and coaching, and UPS' heart, the Loggers put together a package that showed us polls mean nothing. As devistating as this loss was, it worked as a catalyst for us getting our heads back into hard work and all out, 4-quarter play. Loggers - my hat's off to you. Thanks for giving us back our edge. We're gonna put it together in Bellingham, under the lights, and finally play to our potential.

Chad, I really hope you don't call those things lights yet..... Wait until you feel the orange... We talk about your field being an advantage, Western has a huge advantage as well. Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you've got your fire back. I would remember that you guys never let Western play their game last time, and they are probably going to be just as upset with you. B North is going to have some more battles this year.
