Martin Luther King Day

I came across this today, and found the photography to be quite moving.

Today is a great day for reflection, not only on Dr. King and the great things he accomplished, but on how much we as a society have accomplished since those terrible days of segregation. We're not to the mountain top yet, but we're getting there and sometimes it's not so bad to stop and reflect on that notion.

He would be dissapointed if you asked him like that.

I care reallycare less about what he would think about modern leaders, who are black.

I would care more about what he thought about modern leaders.

It's too bad we're not yet arrived at that level of consciousness.

So I have to ask you to clarify your so-called question, which was really a statement, formulated as a question, in order provoke a response.

Do you mean people like Cornell West?

Or Dick Gregory?

I'd argue the great Mr. King would see Jesse Jackson for what he is, a charismatic leader, who's not always right, but unafraid to speak his mind.

I would like to think that someday, we'll live in a post racial environment. The foundation for which was layed by men like Mr. King.

In a recent survey of college students on U.S. civic literacy, more than 81 percent knew that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was expressing hope for "racial justice and brotherhood" in his historic "I Have a Dream" speech.

That's the good news.

Most of the rest surveyed thought King was advocating the abolition of slavery.

adam, thanks for jumping on that before i did. i dont think that MLK would be happy with several of our leaders in this day, namely the 2 at the head of the country right now. While MLK was a great man, there were others pushing for the same cause that included Jackson, Malcolm X, Thurgood Marshall, and, surprise, John F Kennedy, RFK, LBJ, Cesar Chavez, and other non-black leaders.

MLK may not even be impressed with Condi Rice because she seems to be the main one defending the Bush administration without any backup. i ask myself why she continues to put herself out there to answer all the questions from the media and critics while the President gives his speeches and walks away from the podium w/o a Q & A session. and the VP continues to hideaway at Camp David, Western White House (Crawford, TX), or in the bowels of Washington, DC (except for his annual hunting trips, sic).

Colin Powell got out at the right time.

I think MLK jr would be proud of any leader of any race that does things in no regards to race...along with the teachings of big guns upstairs.
