David Beckham is going to L.A. Galaxy

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

There's no doubt that the MLS has a long way to go before it even gets close to the European situation. If I remember correctly the Premier league approached the MLS about being a feeder league for them and the MLS leadership turned them down quickly. In addition, a few players have decided to stay in the US recently that could have went over seas.

The US system is well on its way and the plan to win a world cup by 2020 is well within reach. Half the stands at the MLS games are 50% full of people that aren't Caucasian. One of the biggest things to hurt US soccer was the handling of the women's league after the US' world cup win. This was a huge set back for both the women's and the men's game.

Personally, I think this acquisition is great for the US game and it's exposure. They (the Galaxy and the MLS) need to take advantage of this quickly or Beckhams addition could be a huge flop. They probably have the upcoming season to make this work and that's about it.

Because MLS wants their base to know that they are serious about bringing stars, whether in or past their prime, to compete in America. If people begin to worship Soccer Spice's feet in this country, the way they do in England... the fall of Rome will be have begun all over again.

I am shocked at this latest turn of events!   Oh and outraged too. Yeah, outraged even!

MADRID, Spain -- David Beckham won't play again for Real Madrid after announcing his departure at the end of the season for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS.

"He is not going to play any more. He will practice, but he is not going to play," coach Fabio Capello said Saturday at a news conference.

I wonder about whose house the Beckhams would buy the house from. From the link above, it mentioned Victoria arriving in L.A. to go house hunting.

I am guessing they won't be living in my apartment complex in Culver City.

Beckham got benched this weekend. Capello says he wants players that are committed to his team. so he has to ride the pine until his contract ends in June and then he'll come to the US. I'm guessing that he'll be lacking some match fitness when he first arrives here, and that could hurt cuz the Spanish league doesnt exactly play at a fast pace. MLS is fast and aggressive to make up for lack of overall technical skill.

rumors are that Posh is shopping on the same black as Tom Cruise.....who cares

The league is coming around to finding more players. Claudio Reyna is leaving England to play for Bruce Arena and Red Bull NY. Edgar Davids is close to signing with FC Dallas (dont we need another defensive mid). I'm also hearing that DC United is bringing in a major Brazilian player and Toronto has a major signing waiting for league approval on a contract. This is great right now. we'll have to see how they play on the field, though, for the final story.
peace.

jessexy, I talked to a friend who works with one of the MLS teams and he heard that Chicago is trying to get Brian McBride back to the US. Have you heard anything like this? He also told me about Reyna and New York.

ive heard that but McBride isnt coming back anytime soon cuz he is still starting and scoring goals for Fulham in england. he's doing quite well and was their Team MVP last year. he will make it again this year.

Chicago might be trying to get back Kasey Keller, the keeper in Germany currently. he retired from international soccer and is captain of 'Gladbach but it may be a long shot for this season. he is from the Northwest and wants to come back when they get a team there (Seattle or Portland) Reyna is a coup for NYRB, if he's healthy. but he never is.
peace.
