New NCAA rules of size of heads

I was wondering about the new rules for the size of heads. I was reading in Inside Lacrosse and they said something about offset heads. Does that mean that crankshafts will be illeagal in 2009?

I've heard nothing about offset heads. The new rules are primarily about the width of the head at various points.

and go to page 110 of the PDF or pg 109 of the rulebook to see the new dimensions. Under the section of the book on sticks there is no mention of offset heads being illegal (at least the ones that have been approved - which are a specific head/shaft combo, I believe).

Here is an image I put together for laxshopper.com to explain the rules visually.

Beginning with the 2009 season, measurements for the crosse shall include
the following, in addition to current specifications:
The measurement at the widest part of the crosse shall be a minimum of 6-
1/2 inches measured at the inside of the crosse and a minimum of 6 inches
on the back of the crosse.
The following measurements are taken from the throat of the crosse to
the tip of the crosse:
The measurement at the 5-inch mark may not be less than 4-1/4 inches
measured at the narrowest point of the walls;
The measurement at the 3-inch mark may not be less than 3-1/4 inches at
the narrowest point of the walls; and
The measurement at the 1-1/4 inch mark may not be less than 2-3/4 inches
at the narrowest point of the walls.

This ought to create some interesting mechanics for the officials.

I think they're going to develop a template: if the template fits in the head, the head is legal.

It will probably change. Can you imagine having to tell parents that the new head Johnny just had to own is now illegal? That is just my opinion.

Since the new rule doesn't go into effect until 2009, the mfrs have plenty of time to make their equipment legal (and a lot already is), so I don't think you'll be seeing too much of this argument.

Ok I figure that naming the heads (currently out) that are going to be illegal is going to be a lengthy list (E3, Proton Power, Revo Pro, Evo Pro, Razor Pro, etc), does someone have an idea of what heads are legal just so that we can get an idea as to what we need to be adjusting to?

I would measure my heads but unfortunately all I have are the ones named above. Has anyone happened to measure their heads?

I know that the STX proton, X2, Exalibur are all going to be legal, I think the Bionic as well, but I'm not 100% on that one

The Warrior Blade will be (thank god, probably the best head ever) and the Aftershock, maybe original Evolution and Revolution, but i don't think the Razor

Brine Edge, Vapor, Blaze, will be

Gait's Asylum I think will be, but not gonna swear to it, and not sure on the torque/triton

Pretty much any wide Defensive Head is alright, but most everything attack use is out the window

Ok I broke out my tape measure and an old E3 that I have faced off with in a tournament. Even after going all tournament with it the only place that it is illegal is the 3 inch mark. I have heard that the new E3s do fit the new dimensions.

Honestly I dont know what the rule is going to change except no more Evo Pros and really put a damper on people baking their heads.

Have heard rumors that the new 2.0s from Warrior fit the size.

It is a long time away from 2009, but it is interesting if you just want to see the head size.

The rule will enable a legitimate check to dislodge the ball from a stick. I think it's going to bring about the return of the great takaway defenseman and reduce (not eliminate) the necessity of the early slide defense.

i loved the blade until they stopped making it
