What would be your ideal lacrosse venue in perfect world?

Postby Brent Burns on Wed Mar 02, 2005 9:18 am

If it is a perfect world, what would be your ideal lacrosse venue? Would it be some kind of "perfect" pitch to play on? Not worrying about a Mud Bowl, would you want a spacious mega-complex with nice, real grass under the roof?

After spending a couple times at Vail... I am not sure it gets much better than that with the weather, backdrop etc...
Place is amazing for a game.

Our first trip to Cali is coming up, I may change that tune after I see the Pacific a few times

Someplace that adds a beautiful background to the games being played. As if you were tunning in from the goodyear blimp as it circles overhead - nothing but pristine montains with snow capped peaks and green valley's - or - beautiful beaches, wind swept dunes, (girls in bikini's), and white-washed cliffs.

I'm thinking places like Colorado, or over at the base of the alps in switzerland, germany or austria.

Then I'd go with a California beach.

Homewood field, and Byrd Stadium have always been great venues as well.

Then of course you could play at the worldwide sports complex down at Disney near Orlando, Florida. You got sun, beaches within driving distance, and freaggin Disney World (plus a bunch of other attractions).

How about this:

http://specials.rediff.com/sports/2005/feb/23sld3.htm

Though it may not be big enough for a full field...if somewhere in the future they would be able to have a full field, how amazing would that be...
travel costs would be a little high...but well worth it...

You might have some problems getting players to play up there. Better have some really strong fencing to keep them from falling off the edge.

Hawaii is pretty close to both. The tourney fields aren't the best but one side is closed in by mountains/volcanoes and the other by the beach. I haven't been to Vail but it couldn't get much better than Hawaii. Tahoe is similar with the mountains and lake combo'd with slightly better fields than Hawaii.

Two ideas-

#1- The Disney Sports Complex in Orlando. I could eat dinner off of their fields and during the spring time, fans from the Atlanta Braves training camp flood the local lacrosse games taking place. Quite a rockin' venue.

#2- St. John's could basically use a high school football stadium with artificial turf. That would be our ideal venue. Big, easy to plow, lights for night games and accessible (that last point is key).

I'm sure most UMLL teams feel my pain on point #2.

mountains are always a great backdrop for lacrosse, perfect field would be a place mountains, does not matter where, just have mountains.

i dont know how many people could brave it playing or watching a lax game up on that high platform field, would be cool though

Josh,

did you play in the CSU/BYU game in CSU's stadium a few years back? I was in High School and went to check out the game, I bet it was alot more memoriable for the Cougars, but man, that was FUN! It would be cool to play another game in a football stadium like that.

Another fun part of that game was the look on my mom's face after some of the CSU fans comments. What a crazy bunch
You know something that would really make me applaud? A guy gets stuck in quicksand, then sinks, then suddenly comes shooting out, riding on water skis! How do they do that?!

Perfect world? How about the Coliseum in Rome? Throw a floor on it, sod it over, and you're ready to go.

Amen to that.

Vail has everything mentioned above except for the beaches and wind swept dunes. There are tons of good looking girls and the scenery is unbelievalbe--especially when you take the gondola up to 11,000 ft.

if we're talking perfect places to play, why couldnt it be the Orange Bowl or Reliant Stadium in Houston? or what about the Bernabeu, for those soccer fans out there, which is Real Madrid's home stadium. or the Nou Camp, Barcelona's stadium.

not that any of this is realistic.........
peace.

Those places are too impersonal (in my opinion)... the best lacrosse venues are usually more intimate settings like Georgetown's stadium. Small and simple with the university as a backdrop... what a great place to play.

Always on point . . .

I have a hard enough time getting people to chase their shots in practice when they miss the net....
