Help on starting a team

I played lax in highschool but now i go to the U of Wisconsin Superior and we do not have a team, I was wondering if any coaches out there could give me some advice on how to approach the AD to try to start a team here. Also other things such as costs that are incurred by having a team because a spring without playing lacrosse is just gonna be rough for me.

You are probably going to hit a brick wall with your AD. I would start by talking to the student organization office and go in more of the student club organization route. The AD primarily works with varsity programs, of which you more than likely will not be. When we started NDSU' team, our student org office gave us a list of requirements and rules that we had to meet. We then had to go before the student org committee and show we are ready to be a club and that started the process of getting school money. It takes a while to get through it all and a lot of time will be spent talking to the schools student officers. very first thing I would do even before that is put up fliers or bulletins, or sidewalk chalk or whatever your school does to announce meetings and do just a general meeting to see how much interest there would be in people playing. Do this at least a minumum of a week before the meeting date, so the notice gets enough exposure. Most schools won't let you be an organization unless you have a minimum number of active members so I'd suggest you find that minimum first.

I'd try to put some basic numbers together of how much it would cost to play and what funding might be available from your student org dept. if you get up and running, so you at least have a little information to give people if they come.

You could also talk with schools in the area that have lacrosse - I think there is a startup program in the Duluth area. They're not very good, so you'll have some local competition.
Their coach may be a good resource to contact, in all seriousness. That is, if he's not busy changing diapers!!

Thanks guys hopefully uws can get a team in the UMLL in the next few years, this will probably help. And nice laxfan25, i dont think they have won too many games anyway im pretty sure we could take em
