Whitlock on The Wire

Postby StrykerFSU on Thu Oct 19, 2006 11:59 am

I think that HBO's "The Wire" is the best show on television. I am always looking for discussion of the show and it is rare to find. AOL's Jason Whitlock discusses his views in this article and I think gives a lot of food for thought.

Absolutely the best show on TV! Maybe I'm a little biased because it's my hometown?

I love the scene in season 1 where Omar remembers Bunk playing "that whiteboy sport with the sticks" in high school.

I've been a cop for about 4 and one half years. Season 1 of the wire is the most accurate cop show I've ever seen. No contest. Especially the parts dealing with the FBI and Title IIIs. If you really like The Wire, pick up the book: Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, by David Simon. He spent a year with a Baltimore Homicide unit and wrote about it without changing any of the names or stories. He writes/produces The Wire and worked some of the detectives' names and stories into season 1.

Season 2 is also pretty good. Haven't seen any of season 4 yet.

Season 4 is just as good.

Season one and 3 are very close to real events from what I understand. Season 2 was very loosely based on some events. The characters from which the season 2 plot was based are exaggerated a lot, but the overall plot line and story are very real. they just took multiple stories and events and placed them all in one year and associated them with the Greeks.

The only thing that I can say bad about the show is that a lot of people think that is how all of Baltimore is. A war zone. I wish they would mix in a little bit more of the other side into some of the plot lines. They did a little bit this season showing Carcetti's house and some of the harbor views.
