RMLC back to school

RMLC back to school

Postby BigheadTodd on Thu Aug 17, 2006 11:58 pm

#1 Who is playing who, and when?
The ususal teams will be going to lax Vegas, no doubt, but who else is playing?
#2 New teams
I have it from a pretty reliable source that Weber State is not happening again this season. New Mexico is putting together a schedule already. I have not heard much about Westminster besides Mase's hiring and a few big recruits. Will this be the year that someone finally gets SLCC going? I heard rumblings a while back about BYU-Idaho. More recently, maybe SUU or Dixie State. Are there any Colorado schools on the horizon?
#3 New Technology
Has anyone seen what the computer nerds in Provo have been up to?
http://www.byulacrosse.com
More importantly, will any other teams follow suit? It would be nice to be able to see 4 or 5 RMLC games a week on my computer. I am sure it would help in recruiting as well.

UNM

Postby John Westfall on Fri Aug 18, 2006 8:17 am

We are on the move here at UNM. The Oklahoma Bus Trip is complete. I spoke with Mason at Westminster and they may go as an Independent. I also spoke with Weber State and they don't look to get it off the ground.

Starting from scratch is not easy. Here in New Mexico as all the Californians are coming in droves and driving up the House prices like they have in Vegas, Denver, Phoenix and Salt Lake. The sport of Lacrosse is about to take off. The High School League in Albuquerque is starting along with the Youth League. We have our own Lacrosse company out here to buy stuff from and promote the game. A Company called Lacrosse Southwest. We have taken the steps to model programs like BYU, Colorado State, Auburn, Tennessee, Utah, Arizona, Wake Forest, Colorado and Clemson. This has led to us building this thing on a wider scale. Internally with a feeder system on the local level and a strong recruiting system on a National level that can produce the results to compete in the toughest Conference in the USL MDIA. There is no accident why Colorado and Colorado State met each other in the Division A National Championship. The RMLC is a tough Conference and a tough place to start a program.

We have a new AD at UNM that is from back East. He worked as a Assistant AD at Ohio State several years ago and more recently worked as the AD at Bowling Green. He is interested in what we are doing with the Lacrosse Team and I do very much believe as we develop the UNM Lacrosse program and the Game starts expanding with NCAA programs in the west like for example, Westminster College in Utah. UNM has a chance at going to the NCAA in a few years. In the mean time we just need to focus on developing a competitive College Team on the USL MDIA level and have some fun with it. I don't know how long I may stay at UNM. I have a chance to Coach a High School Team this year and by 2009 or 2010 I may pursue just focusing on the High School team and helping the Youth program where my Son is playing. For the next couple of years it looks like I am doing double duty as Head Coach at UNM and at Rio Rancho High School. At UNM we now have several Coaches along with myself and we are working together within each other's schedule to run the program.

We are excited about going to Boulder and joining the RMLC. We are planning another Bus Trip to Colorado as we develop our RMLC schedule this Fall at the conference meeting in Boulder, Colorado. We look forward in seeing everyone and making a contribution to the RMLC and the USL MDIA. 2007 will be another rebuilding season for us. But look for some real positive things in our program coming out of Albuquerque. Also this will be our first year in the the RMLC and the first time in almost 10 years since we were a member of the USL MDIA back in 1997 in the LSA Conference.

On a personal note, I am just thankful to get a second chance at life and another shoot at being on the sidelines doing what I love doing. God's grace is a powerful thing. I still have some health issues from the Liberty University accident in Alabama in 2005, but I am on my way to getting my health back. Thank you all for the prayers and thoughts as I have come home to New Mexico to restart my life.

Go Lobos!

BYU Fall Ball Schedule

09/29 – BYU Tournament with Westminster, Utah, UVSC, Utah St. (Provo, Utah)
10/07 – Molloy Invitational Tournament (BYU, Duke, Hofstra, Rutgers, Towson, NYiT, Molloy, Springfield and afew more) (Long Island, New York)
10/14 – BYU High School Invitational Tournament (Provo, Utah)
10/20 – BYU Lacrosse Alumni Game (Provo, Utah)
10/28 – Best of the West Tournament (Las Vegas, Nevada)

"Best of the West" in now an invitation only tournament-those committed:

Arizona
Arizona St. Univ.
Brigham Young Univ.
Cal Poly
Chapman Univ.
Colorado St. Univ.
UC Davis
Univ. of Cal. Berkeley

New Teams - Great to have New Mexico up and running with John at the helm. Forget about BYU-Idaho - no extramural teams will be allowed under the new athletic structure. Dixie State is officially NCAA Div II this year - if they were smart they'd pull an NDNU- in fact thier in the Pac West Conference with NDNU - they'd have a million players quick cause it costs like $199.00 to go to school there. Todd - why don't you move back and get WSU running!

BYU computer nerds - I guess that's a compliment!?! Lots of content this fall and spring with the Provo Invitational on 9/29 being the first webcast. By the way, it will be audio only.

Back 2 School means great fall ball tournaments. Myself and Dave Leach both former Western State players are coaching Mountain Range High School in the Northern Denver Thornton area and to help fund the cost of running a team we are hosting a couple of events worth mentioning. Our first event to raise money for our team will be the Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase between CU-CSU on September 30th at 700pm. We are also planning an 8 team Trick or Treat Halloween Tournament on Oct 29th with the championship game being held at MIDNIGHT. We have access to a 7500 capacity sport turf stadium, with lights, and locker rooms. If this is something you are interested in bringing your team to please contact us by replying to the forum and we will get back to you with any questions teams may have. I also recommend Western State’s 4th Annual Fall classic they also put on a good show and look to have 8 teams play as well.

Metro State is still growing and will be at the Boulder meeting. Currently we are setting up a fall schedule, working on a fall fundraising push to defray uniform costs ect, and start practice tuesday the 29th.

the biggest thing weber state needs, is a coach! a coach that is willing to do things! we have a new president because i couldnt do it with getting into my major, i have stepped back to a person that i now think can handle the next step in progressing the team, ill continue to help him where i can.

Tom, you know that is a compliment! If I came back to Utah, WX has the right of first refusal on me, so I don't see me at Weber.
