Great, just what we need, ANOTHER wristband!! Ummm if these guys can afford to pay a $400,000 bail, they don't need any help from any of us with "fundraising" for a defense fund they can obviously afford all on their own!!! Let's save the wristbands and fundraising efforts for things that really matter like the Lance Armstrong "Livestrong" foundation (The original wristband) and fighting breast cancer, etc.

I will NOT be wasting my good money on one of these idiotic wristbands!! If I buy a wristband, it will be to support a WORTHY cause of a NON-PROFIT organization. This wristband is just an excuse for someone out there to cash in on this situation and add another unnecessary wristband to the growing number of wristbands already out there that are being sold for profit and not to help raise funds for a worthy cause!!!

If these boys are innocent, it's a tragedy that their parents are draining all their assets to post bond and borrowing money. Don't underestimate the massive costs of a good legal defense team on top of posting bond. Plus the families are taking time off of work, traveling, etc. The parents may not have much money (if any) left to retire on in a few years. Some of you are probably thinking "boo hoo, poor them".
Put yourselves in their shoes. What if you work hard for the next 25 years and have a highly successful career and you're able to give your family a nice life? Then your son is brought up on charges that you think are bogus and politically motivated, and you must then drain your entire life savings for legal defense and borrow $400k from a friend (how humiliating that would feel) to post bond.
Now people are saying "they're rich, they can afford it". But is it fair to your family? It's not unusual to have fundraisers for legal defense (politicians are pretty good at it actually), why not for this case?

How true. I know of a family that was in a similar situation with their son being brought up on charges that required an expensive lawyer on top of bail. They had just moved into a brand new house. They had to sell the house and move AGAIN just to afford the lawyer.

For those who might be curious, I contacted the Association for Truth and Fairness and recieved the following Statement of Purpose. Please remember I am only passing along information and am not making any personal statement.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
May 3, 2006
ASSOCIATION FOR TRUTH AND FAIRNESS
The Association for Truth and Fairness, a Delaware non-profit corporation, has been recently formed. Its purpose is to advance social welfare by defending human and civil rights secured by law, including due process and equal protection under the law. Although the idea for its creation was spawned by the criminal investigation of the Duke men’s lacrosse team, the Association is intended not only to assist those who are facing similar injustices, but also to strive to prevent such injustices from ever occurring again.
The words “truth” and “fairness” are used in the name of the Association because it is these two basic principles that have been absent in the Duke investigation and resultant indictments. The mission of the Association is to ensure that truth and fairness are no longer anachronistic principles.
The members of the initial Board of Directors are friends of boys on the Duke Lacrosse team. At the initial meeting of the Board, the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED that in furtherance of the Association’s purposes, the Association will help defray past and future costs and expenses incurred in defending members of the Duke men’s lacrosse team against false allegations about the team and individual team members and in communicating truthful information to the general public.
The Association has established a bank account at the United Bank in Washington, DC to receive donations. The bank account will be administered by the Private Banking Department of the United Bank as directed by the Association’s Board of Directors. Directions for making donations to the Association for Truth and Fairness are as follows:
Check and mailing instructions:
If sending a check, please make your check payable to the “Association for Truth and Fairness” and mail to:

Account Name: Association for Truth and Fairness
Please notify J. Catherine Hirsch by telephone (202-828-6781) or by fax (202-293-6966) of your wire.
Please note that contributions to the Association are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes. However, they may be tax-deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. You may wish to consult with your tax professional regarding the deductibility of your contributions.
The Association will not accept any earmarked gifts. In addition, although a limited number of parents of boys on the Duke lacrosse team may join the Association’s board, a firm conflict of interest policy is being adopted so that no director will participate in any decision that might involve a personal financial benefit.

Explain to me again why it is idiotic to try to raise money to help cover legal costs for an as-of-now wrongly accused individual? If you were wrongly accused and it took a strong defense team to prove your innocence, but the cost of proving your innocence exceeded your financial abilities, would you be upset if someone started doing this on your behalf?
Also, I feel that this is a WORTHY cause.

I'm glad you feel this is a worthy cause; it is good to believe in the cause you are supporting. I assume you have also donated to St. Jude childrens research hospital which treats children with cancer as well as pioneers new research to finding cures for such cancers as neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, & acute lymphoblastic leukemia. www.stjude.org/
I assume you have also donated to the Komen foundation which has raised more than 200 million dollars over the last 20 years to help find a cure for breast cancer. www.komen.org
I'm guessing you have also volunteered time to, as well as donated financially, to the special olympics. www.specialolympics.org
I DO at this point believe that the Duke lacrosse players are innocent of the allegations that have been made against them! My point is, as I have just stated above, there are so many more causes out there that are more important in donating to than the legal funds of these 3 Duke players. Had they not made the bad decision to be involved in a party where strippers were as well as what other activities were going on, they wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place!!! They are now paying a very heavy price for using extremely poor judgement and learning a lesson I guarantee they wont soon forget. I hope and pray that these guys are indeed innocent and will either have the charges dropped or will be exonerated in their trials. However, if they are guilty, and I haven't seen anything at this point to make me believe that they are, then I hope they are appropriately punished for their actions!!! Either way, you are more than welcome to offer them any support you wish as that is certainly your right to do so. They got themselves into this mess, and now they have to get themselves out of this mess with the love and support of their family & friends. I hope that perhaps this message helps to clear up any misunderstandings regarding my feelings and position on the issue of buying the wristbands to support these men. They ARE men and as such I expect they can better handle the situation they are in than a small child who is dying of cancer can!!!
