Searching for a nexus between the above comment and the intelligence assertion. Coming up empty.

Help me here. So the more time one spends avoiding reality, acquiring "post-grad degrees" (playing the game defined by left-leaning academics) the smarter one is?

Cool.

I resent the idea that post graduate students are "avoiding reality". That is the same type of general assumption that you are rejecting with regards to liberals having more post graduate degrees and therefore more intelligence.

Two wrongs don't make a right... come on now.

Are all law schools left-leaning? What about business schools? I suppose those acquiring PhD's in Chemistry are also learning left-leaning academics? I guess the professors at Ivy League institutions are morons for wasting their time and acquring doctorates as well. The vast majority of them are liberals. What about doctors? Are doctors avoiding reality by acquiring a medical degree?

As far as research, what would you like? The Pew Research Center findings were not good enough for you (By the way, PRC is a reputable non-partisan think tank!) and neither were exit polls. Even if I did find more evidence, it wouldn't be sufficient. If anybody is avoiding reality, it is you.

I can say from experience that the vast majority of environmental scientists I have encountered are at best Democrats and at worst Socialists.

With or without statistics I find it offensive that anyone would equate intelligence with political beliefs. It's that very elitism that has cost the Democrats so dearly in recent elections and has been addressed countless times by folks far more eloquent than I. Adittionally, by using post-grad degrees as your indicator what you are really equating is education level to political beliefs. Following this logic, the welfare recipient who dropped out of high school should vote Republican. It is above my pay grade to try to explain why the majority of college professors lean to the left politically so I will not try. What I do think is that the rule does not hold nearly as well for PhDs, JDs, etc who are working in for government or the private sector.

At least it was acknowledged that intelligence does not a good leader make. And when we discuss intelligence, what are we really talking about? Was Clinton in MENSA while Pres. Bush struggled to graduate high school? Didn't Pres. Bush have a higher GPA at Yale than Gore? Could a second grader spell better than Dan Quayle?

PS: The letters PhD after your name don't say anything about your intelligence, and the I think we would be better served if the PhD's would remember that.

That's a complete red herring.

No one ever said "We can't criticize these widows" and there has been ample debate over their political points.

Ann Coulter can't win a debate on the actual issues, so has to attack the messenger. She has no original ideas or expertise in anything.

That's why she's reduced to attention-whoring gimmicks and riding her "liberals are dumb" pony to peddle her book.

Set up the bullet-proof victim and they can't be beat. It is amazing how many (more) books she sells compared to the top liberal writers.

And if you can't beat her in the public marketplace for ideas & dollars, ban her:

The left talks about "free speech," but when push comes to shove - they would prefer censorship to make their political point.

There's also something called interpersonal intelligence. This can't really be measured, just perceived.

Who sets up the "bulletproof victim"? Did some coalitition of leftists kill their husbands in order to "trot out" bullet proof widows? How ridiculous!
No one wants to ban Ann Coulter. As a liberal, I hope that she can replace Tom Delay as the symbol of right wing excess. The only problem is that she is not well known enough yet.
Her book does not attack the ideas of the 911 commission and the women who were the driving force behind it. She attacks the women themselves. "Happy their husbands died"? "A bunch of harpies that would have been divorced anyway"? Nice argument. Why not dispute the findings of the 911 commission? Creation of Homeland Security seems to be a huge blunder etc.

Well Said.

How did this discussion become "liberals are smarter than conservatives?" It always fascinates me when a political discussion becomes a pissing contest.

Next it will be that "my dad can beat up your dad."

Stick to the issues. . .by making ridiculous generalizations and labeling conservatives as undereducated or less intelligent than their liberal counterparts is the same tactics used by Ann Coulter and Michael Moore in attacking the messenger, not the message.

Stick to the message. . .

Two state Democratic legislators (Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley and Linda Stender) from New Jersey do.

You're right. But by using a buzz word like "ban", the people on the right can imply that people on the left are anti-free speech, anti-america, anti-god, yada yada yada...

Stats are fun. It is easy to make them biased. Yes, education tends to be more liberal. There are other jobs that tend to be more conservative.

Ann Coulter is extremely over the top. Even as a conservative it is hard to agree with many of her comments. I really want to see her debate some other extremist. Where is MTV's Celebrity Death Match when you need it? Ann Coulter vs. any liberal or other extremist.

Probably not, considering Gore went to Harvard and graduated cum laude. What did Bush have? Straight C's?

Did you even read the article you linked to?

Some assemblywoman in Bumblecrap, New Jersey called for a voluntary consumer boycott.

No one is calling for a ban. No one is censoring anything.

Did she propose legislation that the State of New Jersey ban the book? No.
Are the police confiscating books and burning them? No.
Is anyone going through Ann Coulter's book and censoring passages? No.
Is that supressing Ann Coulter's freedom of speech? No.

How typical:
1. Attack the messenger.
2. Distract with a red herring, e.g. "Ann Coulter has sold a lot of books"
3. If all else fails, just make up some crap about "the left".

You might as well throw in a non sequitur about Ted Kennedy, Michael Moore, or someone equally irrelevant.
