Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought way back when all this first surfaced, the accuser didn't ID any of the captains. Now they are saying Evans was the one that was 90% and there was a "partial match" to the DNA, whatever that means. Seems to me there could have been a transfer if he picked up the fingernail and put it in the trash or from something else already in the trash. Or perhaps she touched his arm when she came into the house. Still seems there is nothing anywhere near conclusive.

Looks like I did remember this correctly that Evans wasn't IDed at first, then somehow 2 weeks later he is.

Are these guys retarded? Do they not realize that, whether the rape allegations are true or not, they need to be on their best behavior?

Or maybe they are . . . .

This is the sort of thing that could be just enough to make the difference between keeping and killing the program.

I agree wholeheartedly. The microscope is on the Duke lacrosse program and here is one of their kids getting busted for DWI.

This cannot look good to the school's administration.

Any speculation on when they will name a coach?

That sound you hear is the collective hand slap to the forehead of everyone in the country. I don't think this guy was/is the brightest crayon in the box...

I'm pretty sure that the Duke panel stated that they saw no reason to keep the team from playing in '07.

As for this DUI thing, admittedly it doesn't look good but what's the relevance to the future of the team? Last time I checked school's not even in session. Athletes get in trouble ALL the time. It wouldn't be summer in Tallahassee without some football player beating his girlfriend, stealing, using drugs, etc... So let's all take a deep breath and not add to the hysteria surrounding those Dukies Gone Wild! And please spare me all of the holier than thou, "how could he be so stupid as to drive drunk?" We don't exactly have to play six degrees of separation to get to someone we know who has driven drunk in their life. Do not misunderstand, I am not condoning the behavior. This fool's actions have probably cost him his place at Duke but the fact that he is a lacrosse player should not be relevant.

When's the last time you read, "Police arrested Joe Schmo, celebrated Chemistry student, for drunk driving last night."?

Thats exactly what I was thinking. He made a mistake, why does his name get published all over America when this is an everyday occurance in our country and none of the others are reported in the press.

Don't take my comments as a "holier than thou" attitude. I know this is something that happens everyday, all around the country and unfortunately doesn't raise an eyebrow. But in this case with the national media hovering around Durham, in my opinion looking for a way to keep a cold (for the moment at least) story alive, you would have to know that they will be looking for anything concerning the lacrosse team and the cops.

Also I didn't think the committee had made it's final recommendation yet. So this could be seen by some on that committee, rightfully so or not, as another example of poor judgement by members of the team. I use the term poor judgement since no one has been found guilty or innocent in either case. But you don't find yourself in these types of situations without being guilty of some degree of poor judgement.

Under normal circumstances, any other summer, this wouldn't be an issue. But we all know this isn't a normal summer. I would just think that with 3 of your teammates charged, you would use a tad bit more common sense.

The fact remains that the team is under the microscope and it is still under fire for its behavior. Any negative behavior reported by the press cannot help its cause. Any yes, a panel suggested fielding a team. The Athletic Department and School Administration have not officially said anything, just that current operations are suspended. The longer this team is suspended and the longer members continue to make news with events like this the less chance they field a team. In my opinion.

Also, my opinion is do not liken its members actions to football or basketball members actions. Apples to oranges comparison when you look at dollars, influence, alumni and school support etc. Lacrosse is not an institution above the law.

Duke disputes report lacrosse team to return

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University officials said Friday they haven't decided the future of the school's men's lacrosse program, which was suspended from play after a student at a nearby university told police she was raped at a team party.

University spokesman John Burness denied several published reports that the school planned to announce next week the team would return to play next season.

Duke University will announce plans to reinstate its embattled men's lacrosse program and name former Duke and Comsewogue High School star Kevin Cassese interim head coach early next week, according to three people familiar with the situation.

Cassese, 25, served as an assistant coach at Duke this spring and was an
