Playoff Picture and Predictions

Postby cgalax on Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:18 am

The last three spots seem to go like this.
1. If Stonehill wins and CG loses. Stonehill is 5 and BU is 6 based on head to head and CG is out.
2. If Stonehill loses and CG loses. BU is 5 and CG is 6 based on head to head with Stonehill.
3. If Stonehil loses and CG wins. BU is 5 and CG is 6.
4. If both Stonehil and CG win, then it is a 3 way tie with no clear head to head winner and so it goes to goal differential and I don't know who wins those. I think BU is probably 5 and it is between Stonehill and CG for 6. Both have lost some blowouts, but I don't know who has more goals in there tight wins.

You're right about all four scenarios. If #4 happens, it does go to goal differential. However, because we can not count CG vs. BSC (because BU did not play BSC), goal differential is -7 for BU and -10 for CG and will stand at this for the purposes of this tiebreaker. Therefore, if #4 happens, BU will be 5 and CG will be 6 and Stonehill will be out. So, SC can only get a spot if they win and CG loses. To condense the above:

1. If SC wins and CG loses, SC is 5 and CG is 6.
2. If SC loses and/or CG wins, BU is 5 and CG is 6

Yes, because even if SC beat BU, there would be three teams at 4-5. BU wins that tie-breaker so they get #5. Then it reverts back to head-to-head for SC and CG and SC lost to CG so CG would get 6.

CG is playing Bridgewater and Stonehill is playing BU at Stonehill. I don't think they have forfeited. I expect they will show up, I think they have regrouped and will be thinking about the future and want to go down and beat CG.

Top 5 seeds are set. 6th seed is a little more complicated.

1. Northeastern
2. New Hampshire (head-to-head with NU is tie-breaker)
3. Boston College
4. Connecticut (if they beat, URI, they still lose head-to-head tie-breaker with BC)
5. Boston University

6th seed is up for grabs between Coast Guard and Bridgewater.

CG is 2-5 and has BSC remaining
BSC is 1-6 and has CG and URI remaining

If CG loses to Bridgewater and BSC wins both games, BSC is the #6 seed.
Otherwise, CG is the #6 seed.

URI is out of contention. Even if they win both of their remaining games and end at 3-5 AND CG loses to BSC (leaving CG at at 3-5 as well) URI loses the head-to-head tie-breaker with CG.

I think this is right.

How is Bridgewater getting both games in. I thought tonight was the last night that we are allowed to play in the regular season. Did they play last night or something?
What if they don't play both games, but won tonight would they get in, or does URI become a forfeit and so they end either 2-7 or 1-8.

Well, the reason we keep Wednesday free of scheduled games is to allow make-ups so they could make it up tomorrow, but I doubt it. I don't know why it was postponed in the first place so I don't know who will take the forfeit.

Does anyone know if the Bridgewater v. URI game is going to happen? If that question gets answered, it could make the playoff picture complete.

I thought it was postponed due to weather. It was originally scheduled 4/5 when we got a lot of snow all morning. I know this because my H.S. game got postponed on that day as well. I think they should be given the opportunity to host that game on Wednesday should the need arise.
