I really hate to sound insensitive here. Please don’t misunderstand me. I feel that the rape of a woman is right up there with attempted murder and all that.
Are we just not seeing much of the prosecutions case here? To me, even with the media not being fair and balanced, it still looks like an open and shut case. It seems like the more investigating they are doing (which is good) they are finding more and more reasons that the defendants are innocent. Under the precedent of innocent until proven guilty, my heart really goes out to these guys. When these guys (note my confidence) become aquitted, they will have a black eye for the rest of their lives. It seems to me (and again, maybe we are just not seeing all the angles) that the only leg the prosecution is standing on are the injuries that were present on her body.
I freely admit that through my college days I attended more than one party featuring female entertainment. I dont want to stereotype, but the majority of these young ladies (and in one case very old lady) were of pretty shady morals. Do the math here and you can see what I am getting at. Something like this could have happened to any one of us!
Bad News for Duke

A really good article from Newsweek. Its a long read but worth it.

Newsweek wrote:May 1, 2006 issue - Racial tension, class conflict and allegations of sexual violence are perfect ingredients for a media circus. On eBay last week, you could buy T shirts decorated with a cartoonish "South Park" character, posing as a Duke lacrosse player, crudely taunting the prosecutor: MIKE NIFONG S---- A--. On talk radio, Rush Limbaugh was speculating whether the Rev. Al Sharpton would arrive on the scene to play the Tawana Brawley card after, as Limbaugh put it, "the lacrosse team supposedly, you know, raped some, uh, hos." (Limbaugh later apologized for a "terrible slip of the tongue.") On cable TV, Jon Stewart was making fun of Geraldo Rivera for gravely and fatuously intoning, "It is not always the nuns that get raped. Sometimes it's the strippers that get raped."

They are saying that the email was a take-off of American Psycho. I haven't seen it in a few years, so I can't confirm, but I doubt the kid thought a late-night email to his teammates could cause so much trouble, especially if he was just paraphrasing a movie.
I know I have sent out a drunk-email or two out to the guys without concern that people other than my team could eventually see them.

If anything, the reference is to the book, which was very graphic. The movie was tame compared to the book. That being said, there is no mention of skinning women in the movie, so the claim by the players is not true.

Duke lacrosse players cite money dispute
ESPN.com news services
Several Duke lacrosse players who say they were at a team party the night of the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman have told ESPN's George Smith that an argument over money and the amount of time two exotic dancers were expected to perform was at the center of a dispute that night.
The players, who agreed to speak with ESPN on the condition their names not be used, also admitted that slurs and bad language were used by some players and the dancers during the argument.
The father of the accuser, meanwhile, told MSNBC on Tuesday night that his daughter had considered dropping the case, but as of now he says she will go through with it. His name wasn't used so as not to reveal the identity of the accuser.
"She has talked about it," the accuser's father said of dropping the case. "She has talked about it. As a matter of fact, she told me it was getting to be too much on her. She couldn't take it. So far, she's still hanging in there though.
"I'm hoping she will hang in there, but I know it's getting rough on her now. . . . I'm praying and hoping that she don't [drop the case]."

I think you might want to back off of your last assertion there #70. There are a lot of studies pointing to the exact opposite.
Separate your anger over her possbly lying from broad swweping generalizations about rape victims

Duke Lacrosse Accuser Made Previous Report
DURHAM, N.C. - The woman who says she was raped by three members of Duke's lacrosse team also told police 10 years ago she was raped by three men, filing a 1996 complaint claiming she had been assaulted three years earlier when she was 14.

I wonder if USC is going to cancel their football season and/or Carroll will be forced to resign:

Yeah just read about that. It will be interesting to see the difference in the way the two stories are being covered.

I will tell you how they are being covered. This story was already removed from ESPN's home page!!!! It went from the home page to the college football page within a matter of hours. Simply ridiculous.
