regardless of whether the accusations are true or false, it is really unfortunate that this has cast a negative light not just on the Duke Lacrosse team, but on the sport of Lacrosse as a whole. Generally speaking, a high percentage of people in the US have never even seen a lacrosse game, much less know what the sport is, and since this is the most national exposure the sport has ever experienced, its sad that this episode is alot of peoples first impression. Point in case....Our team stopped at Safeway Sunday morning to get some food before our game against Central Washington @ noon. A couple of my teammates and I were sitting in front of the store eating when an elderly couple approached us and asked us if we were selling anything. We were not, but they noticed we were wearing matching shooter shirts, so they asked us if we were part of an organization or something. We told them we were the PLU Lacrosse team, and their friendly smiles disappeared in an instant. The man walked into the store immediately after hearing that. The woman replied with a wary voice, something along the lines of "oh.......well i just want to let you boys know that you should be VERY careful at this age..." some other small talk to try to seem as friendly as possible while obviously assuming we(lax players) were all the same, then hurried herself into the store. guilty or exonerated, this is going to hang over the sport's head for awhile.

This weekend in Stevens Point Wi, some guy drove by screaming Duke, Duke,Duke,...... as we were warming up. Must not have much else to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Last week we had spring break and today is our first day back. Its only noon and I've had three people come up to me and ask me about Duke.

I had to go through 14 pages of this thread to make sure I am not repeating anything.

With the newest issue of Sports Illustrated (April 10, 2006), there is an article called "Blue Wall of Silence" by Alexander Wolff. There is one sentence under the title before leading into the full article which reads, "Whether Duke lacrosse players are guilty or innocent, the rape allegations that rocked the program exposed the sport's changing culture." That is on pages 16 and 17.

Isn't this the same person who wrote about the lacrosse boom a year ago (April 25, 2005)?

Has anyone read this article yet? If you are a SI subscriber, all you have to do is go to "Search," type in "Alexander Wolff" and find the title "Blue Wall of Silence." You can do either type in your mailing address or your SI account to read the full story. Like Sonny said earlier in this thread, copyrighted material can not be used on the USLIA.com. Just a friendly reminder. On the other hand, it is a worthwhile reading.

apparently the DNA is done; however, the results have not been released yet.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,191232,00.html

DURHAM, N.C. — The state crime lab has completed DNA testing of members of Duke University's men's lacrosse team, sending the results to police and prosecutors who are investigating allegations an exotic dancer was raped at a team party, a spokeswoman for the state attorney general said Monday.

From The Associated Press:

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — There is no DNA match between members of Duke University's men’s lacrosse team and an exotic dancer who told police she was raped at a team party, attorneys for the team said Monday.

Maybe it belongs to OJ Simpson or Michael Jackson! If the glove doesn't fit... You MUST acquit!!!

If the DA has other evidence, I wonder why he hasn't presented it yet??? I'm guessing at this point after everything that has taken place so far that his reputation and perhaps his career is on the line and he is just grasping at anything he can to try and save his job. To the DA, I have this to say:

"GIVE IT UP!!!! THEY DIDN'T DO IT!!!! LET IT GO ALREADY!!!!!"

At this point Duke's team is clean, good luck getting a rape prosecution aginst them when the DNA collected from the stripper is different from the players they're trying to prosecute.

I'd say this is now on its way down, end result is higher profile for Lacrosse nationally, even though it's definitely not the way I would have had it done.
