Who is the greatest lacrosse player of all time?

That's going to be a hard sell convincing me that the best lacrosse player of all time didnt even play D1, D2, or even D3 lacrosse!!!

Some posters are talking about the best players of all time and some are discussing the best MDIA players of all time. If you had read carefully, you would have seen that MJ is in the latter category. Many people think that with the more recent nationwide recruiting, MJ could have played well at the D1 level.
MJ is Michael John Crickmore.

Well, since I am the one who started this thread, I can tell you for certain that this thread is about the Greatest lacrosse player of ALL time and not the greatest MDIA player. If people are now talking about the greatest MDIA player, they might want to start a new thread to talk about that person to avoid any confusion. I'm not being snotty here, just making a suggestion to avoid confusion. When i started this thread, I had both Gary Gait and Jim Brown in mind. Perhaps I should have asked people to vote for the greatest lacrosse player of all time at each position since there have obviously been some incredible D-men and goalies over the years as well.

I would certainly agree that Kevin Alexander is worthy of mention. I saw him go one one one with a goalie several years ago and he threw so many quick fakes on the goalie that the goalie just gave up, threw his stick in the air and walked out of the crease to allow Kevin to score the goal. Kevin certainly can do some amazing things with a stick! Did Kevin ever play any NCAA lacrosse like the Gait's did?

Kevin Alexander has been described as the "Gretzky of the lacrosse floor." His prowess with the stick was phenomenal and his astronomical scoring feats throughout his career were instrumental in leading teams that he played for to championships. In his last two years as a junior he led the Victoria McDonald's to the 1976 Minto Cup Junior Canadian championship. He amassed 204 points in 28 games in 1975 and 217 points in 28 games in 1976. His senior career in the Western Lacrosse Association ran from 1977 to 1986, eight of which he played with the Victoria Payless. In exactly 300 games his tally was 797 goals and 584 assists. It is clear that had he enjoyed a longer career his stats would be incomparable.

Alexander was a skilled player with an instinctive understanding of the game. His combination of speed and insight made him nearly impossible to stop once he was close to the net. His greatest moments in lacrosse came with his Minto Cup championship as a junior and leading his team to win the Mann Cup in 1979 and 1983. In 1986 he was named the best midfielder at the world field lacrosse championships, which are held every four years, and he was named to the All World team.

Maybe its a little too late for that suggestion. A couple of pages are about the top MDIA players...apparently some posters (I hope tongue in cheek) suggested Justin Combs.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jim Lewis, attack for Navy early 60's. He led Navy to three national championships in a row and revolutionized the way attackman play the game. He was the first to tuck the stick under his shoulder and drive to the goal one handed. This was in the days before plastic heads when they were all using the woodies. Oh year, his freshman year his plebe team beat the Navy varsity in a pretty official scrimmage. The Navy varisty was national champs that year. Everyone should read "Spirit in the Stick."

Petro is a sick defender. I played on an indoor team with him in 1990 the year after he graduated. Not only was he a sick player, but he is a really nice guy. He would hang out after the games and with everyone and was just like one of the guys.
