If I recall correctly, on the BYU trip last year, UCSB was lucky to come away with a last second victory over the Buffs when they were up a goal late in the 4th quarter.

14-4 UCSB. Goal by freshman Brendan Sindell, so guess the starters are out for UCSB.

Final 14-6 UCSB wins it. Colorado scored 2 goals against the UCSB backups. #5 and #34 scored for the Buffalos.
Thanks to Don Abate for the reporting. The Gauchos, after improving greatly but finding ways to lose, finally put one away. UCSB has now played all the top teams but Oregon. They wound up 2-4 with wins over BYU and Colorado. All of their losses were close. They lost to UCSD (OT) and CSU by one. SSU by 2 (really one.... empty netter with a few seconds left), and Michigan by 3.
This was Colorado's first MDIA loss.

I'm going out on a limb and predicting the Gauchos will not lose again this season. Look for a 3peat in Dallas.

Go Gauchos!

I noticed that the Gauchos had a very emotional players only meeting after the Sonoma loss on Wednesday. They had a similar meeting after they lost to Sonoma in 2003. They, then went on to win 12 or 13 in a row before losing to Colorado St in the championship game. Maybe they will get on a roll now and win another championship in 2006.
This was UCSB's highest point total of the season and tied their greatest margin of victory for the year. This young team has improved tremendously as the season progressed but their schedule was so tough with 6 top 8 teams in a row that they couldn't get over the hump.
So now, finals are over, a new quarter begins for the Gauchos and they are off on the right foot with a big win over a very good Colorado team.

Do they get Nejdl back now that the new quarter is starting or will he be redshirting?

Yes, they return Dave Nejdl on defense and Lewis Kubitz at attack. Luke Shaw should be healthy again after tonsillitis kept him out of UCSD and part time for Sonoma. Should help.

I have to say, it was a thrill to hear it unfold over the web, despite the fact that there never seemed like enough data to me! I was hungry for news because I felt on weds. at Sonoma that these guys were really playing better than I'd seen all season. More intensity, more discipline. Thanks so much to everyone reporting in.

Bluevelvet said it right,

"This young team has improved tremendously as the season progressed but their schedule was so tough with 6 top 8 teams in a row that they couldn't get over the hump."

no-one's had as tough a schedule as UCSB.

Watch out for these guys, they're going to be hard to beat for anyone in the MDIA.

Ole, ole, ole! Go Gauchos
