PNCLL Playoffs and Championships

PNCLL Playoffs and Championships

Postby Lax_Stats on Sat Mar 25, 2006 11:37 pm

Can anyone tell me when the PNCLL quarter finals, semi-finals and Championship games will be played and where? It seems that April 22nd and 23rd would normally be the quarter finals at specific schools, but I see teams who will likely be in the playoffs have regular season games scheduled that weekend. I am assuming then that the quarter finals would be the following weekend April 29th and 30th and the semi-finals on May5th or 6th with the championship games being played either May 6th or 7th. However, this would seem to be an odd schedule with the national championships beginning in Texas on May 9th. Does anyone have the correct info? Thanks.

The final four tournament this year will be held in the Portland Area at Tigard HS on April 29 and 30.

The A division is run with the top 4. The B division run with the top 6 teams.

The A division is easy to explain as there is only one division and each team plays each other once. The teams with the best records move on 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. The winners move on to Sunday with the winner getting the AQ to Dallas. Oregon is the favourite now, if someone else wins then the PNCLL most likely would send two A teams.

The B division is a little more complicated but from what I gather this is how it plays out. Each team plays their divisional foes once plus 3 games against teams from the other division preset by the PNCLL executive. The winner of each division is given the #1 and 2 seeds. The team with the best record is given the top seed. The last 4 teams are based on the best records of the remaining teams regardless of division. The B div DOES have a QF round the weekend before (22 and 23) with the last 4 teams playing down to two for the right to go to the Final Four.

Hope that makes sense and I am not wrong. Here is the link to the posting by Dan I was going from.

To further explain the final four using the standings right now here is what the playoffs would look like. This will most likely change as there are a fnumber of games left. Use this as a guide only.

(Ties broken by order listed not actual tiebraking methods)
A div
#1 Oregon
#2 OSU
#3 SFU
#4 BSU

Playoffs
Oregon vs BSU and OSU vs SFU
Winners play for the PNCLL championship

B div
#1 Montana (leading South div and 5-0)
#2 WWU (leading North div and 5-1)
#3 Whitman (3-1)
#4 Central (2-1)
#5 Southern (4-2)
#6 Linfield (4-2)

Round 1
Whitman vs Linfield (played at Whitman due to higher seed)
Central vs Southern (played at Central due to higher seed)

Winners make the final four

Round 2
Montana vs lowest remaining seed
Western vs highest remaining seed

Winners play for PNCLL championship

This is only an example based on the current standings for explanation purposes. Things will probably and most likely will change by the time April 21 rolls around for the B's and April 28 for the A's

That looks like that should probably be correct. thanks for the posting. For some reason I was getting confused thinking there would be an "A" division quarter final game for some reason.

That will be up to Joe Kerwin, the tournament director for our Final Four this season. I am not sure if we are playing the games on one field or two this year, and obviously that will affect things dramatically.

Joe will be back from his Utah trip soon and we will get those details ironed out as soon as possible. When we know the playoff schedule we will post it on our website, www.pncll.com so that it is readily available to players and their families so they can make plans to see the games that weekend.
