Just ended, 18-14 Montana. Interesting game, Montana never seemed to get going, spending 15 minutes in the box, while PLU capitalized on just about every EMO attempt they had. My hats off to PLU, they showed a renewed confidence and a much higher level of play than any time earlier this season.

The Mizzou goalie made a last second save to keep OSU from sending it to overtime. It was a good game to watch.

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Mon Mar 13, 2006 7:12 pm

Still waiting on official scores to be posted to PNCLL.com for UO-Tex and Montana-PLU, the Gonzaga games and need a confirmed final score also for Whitman-Lewis & Clark (slacker hippies all! 8-)) before I can put this thread "to bed" ...

Whitman-LC

Postby Juergy on Mon Mar 13, 2006 9:40 pm

Whitman 8-1 over L and C. Don't have the stat sheets because we are on spring break and the "dean of coaches" has them--and he is in the center of the universe--Huntington, NY.

I can say that it was a fun game and that once again our "daiper dandies" performed well, scoring many goals. Pardon us hippies for not having scores and stats. We're all rafting, rock climbing, and wearing tye-dye and doing other hippie-like activities while on spring break.

Peace 8-)

Goalie saves

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Tue Mar 14, 2006 1:04 am

Following up on a thread in the General Discussion forum -- I'm not sure how some teams keep their stats, but the number of official goalie saves recorded by Oregon State's Josh Azevedo has me really scratching my head here.

In our UW game with OSU, our team' Scorekeeper (Pat Scott) had the OSU goalie making 12 saves. I had him stopping 11. OSU reported 20 saves on their official submission. We took 29 shots for the game, and so many of these missed the cage entirely that I couldn't keep track. The save numbers were way off in this game I witnessed first-hand and kept stats on.

Then in the Missouri game this weekend, the OSU goalie was credited with 19 more saves -- even though the Tigers reported taking only 28 total shots for the game, which they won scoring 13 goals. You do the math.

None of this is meant as a knock on Azevedo, who is a fine young Goalkeeper to be sure. But to grossly inflate his stats -- making him the top Goalie in the conference in save percentage, makes no sense to me when the numbers are so far beyond statistical possibility.

Perhaps somebody from the Beavers would care to weigh in on this?

Great second half from the Grizz. . .I don't know what adjustments your coach made at halftime, but a 10-goal second half is very impressive.

My thoughts from the game:

**Kris Olsen was unbelievable for the Lutes - especially on EMO- I think he had 8 assists.
**Ryan Frey is the best long-pole I've seen in the B division.
**The mud was a factor. Both goalies struggled with the bad bounces. There was very little finesse in this game--it was a bar room brawl with sticks. I saw #14 from Montana take a bounce shot after catching a feed on the crease, and the ball just stuck in the ground.
**Montana spent way too much time in the box. Twice in the first half PLU fouled UM and a flag was down. . .and then the Montana player would retaliate and get his own flag. Undisciplined play cost them big time in the first half.

These two teams will play again. The seeding in the B division right now is impossible to predict, with all of the upsets thus far.
