CATLAX,

Sorry son, I thought you would be able to read the sarcasm in the "two-headed coin" and the "Jedi mind" comments. I am sure teams with good coaches take a minute to figure out which side of the field they want to be on.

Is it true that michigan also charges admission for home games???

On a different note here at SCSU we have a new multi-million dollar and multi-purpose stadium with fieldturf that we play our home games on. There is a dome over it during the winter but in a few months the dome will be off allowing for outdoor games as well. When the bubble is off there is a beautiful view of the mississippi river from the stands, I have also been told that our scoreboard will be functional for games depending on when the dome is taken down.

i think Michigan charged when we went out there, not 100% sure though.

Washington's facilities include FOUR FieldTurf fields, including our home field, IMA #3; the outdoor football practice field (Tuesday & Thursday night practices); Husky Stadium (no longer our home field but still used for the occasional practice) and the crown jewel, Dempsey Indoor, home of Fall practices and host to the Husky Lacrosse Invitational in March:

This is a $29 million facility, and an incredible place to play lacrosse. They wheel in temporary bleachers, and the building capacity allows for up to about 600 fans.

We do charge admission. $5 or $3 for UM students with ID (children 5 and under are free). We have tickets that can be purchased in advance this year through a regional retailer. The tickets are pretty nice looking. The retailer involved paid for their production, and they have a coupon on the back for a discount at their stores. We use the tickets on gameday for drawings for prizes and for the halftime shootout promotion. Admission is a pretty significant revenue stream for us. We make between $10,000 and $20,000 a year on the gate, which translates to 5-10% of our average budget (or airfare for one of our trips, to put it in perspective).

(We've had two or three sell-outs since I've been here, which is about 1,000 people. The new facility in a few years will have room for 2,000 - 3,000, so we'll be doing pretty well if we ever sell one of those out.)

Dempsey looks on par with Osterbann except no one hears about it because of the location.

Charging admission is something you have to do as a club team if you can get away with it.

Dempsey/Oosterbahn

A couple of the CSU guys last year were talking to me about the two buildings. They said the ceiling is twice as high in Dempsey, otherwise the two are comparable.

We need a higher ceiling. It's high enough in the middle, but making long passes down a sideline can be dicey. Once or twice a season someone hits the ceiling. Ground rules = out of bounds.

I mentioned earlier that our new facility, when completed in a few years, will be MUCH bigger, including high ceilings. It's not going to pleasant around here while construction is going on (not this year, but probably the next two), but it will be worth it when it's done.

Who else plays games indoors with regularity other than us, Indiana, Pitt, Iowa and Washington (and Syracuse, if you're counting)?

Not that we get to use it, but the Mo we have out here is sick. I guess it is like UW's and Michigans facilities, but from being in there, I don't think you would ever have a problem throwing passes. The roof is super high and there is a ton of room in there. It is a really nice facility, too bad they don't let us use it, well actually we could, but we get charged some stupid fee.

Your retailer is Detroit Lax correct??? I think charging admission is a great idea if you draw a large amount of spectators as you seem to do. I played at a high school here in Minnesota that was among the first if not the only to charge admission for our games, we played on a outdoor field at our middle school where we played friday night games under the lights and had a working score board and PA system. Many parents and fans from opposing schools didn't understand how we could charge $6 for adults and $3 for students and still draw upwards of 100 for hs lacrosse games in state where the sport is still very unknown.

I'm curious as to what other sorts of fundraising your program does.

To the Oregon player, I think having that facility would be a great decision for a team that is trying to be a regular in the top 10. Just charge admission like Michigan.

I think playing at WVU in Mountaineer Field is pretty cool. Not the greatest field, but how many other places do you get to play where the football team plays.

lindenwoods new stadium

Postby lionlax22 on Tue Feb 15, 2005 11:14 pm

Our new stadium is going to compete as one of the best. It is still under construction right now, but it already looks pretty good. It is field turf and the new stadium will seat 8,000 people with presidental boxes, a three story press box, folding stadium seats, and more. It will be great if the workers would actually do something. It is all brick and cement. Looks alot like a castle from the outside.

To lionlax

How many people do you anticipate coming to your games? Will you charge admissions?

Here is an old pic from my freshmen year of the Bubble (2001). I haven't seen it yet with the new turf they installed at the end of last year but hopefully get some new pics from this weekend:

Image

Here is a pic showing the lights are "nicely" at stick level so losing the ball in them is easy let alone the white background:

Image

Then you could have day games where the sun plays fun with the white background:

I can't complain too much, it is a nice indoor place they let us use during the winter.
