CCLA Championship Tourney

Postby jimh3983 on Tue Dec 06, 2005 7:50 pm

Any word on where the CCLA Championship Tourney will be held... I know on the CCLA website it mentions CMU and Grand Rapids again as possible spots. Any new possibilities?

I am just wondering why don't we just stay at Grand Rapids. It seems like we are having a hard time finding a new location. Is there any word on whats going on with this?

I've heard that it's down to 3 choices:

East Grand Rapids, MI
Indiana University
University of Toledo

but that's not official.

why do we care about toledo as a location

Postby zolander on Mon Jan 30, 2006 8:51 pm

Why Toledo???
That is the worst idea ever because:
A.) University of Toledo is not in our conference or league.
B.) As a team they are unorganized and unreliable in scheduling.
C.) It is too far away from USLIA teams that will bring fans to the championship (if it were within a reasonable drive).
D.) If it is simply because we are trying to "recruit" new teams to the league...see option B again.
1. If we are trying to recruit we should recruit teams that appear ready to make the commitment to our league such as Ohio University or University of Cinncinati.

I know its just me ranting but I'm ranting for a good cause.

South Bend or Indianapolis seem like both would be good sites for a future CCLA tournament. Both are homes to Division 1 teams and are more centrally located (South Bend more than Indy) for all teams within the CCLA.

First off, I have nothing to do with the selection process.

Second off, we'll go where it's decided.

Third, Toledo is probably the closest thing to a central location you'll find.

Remember, the CCLA isn't just Indiana, and Michigan. You have Pitt, WVU, Buffalo (and that's just the A teams).

I'm sure whatever decision the E-board makes will be a good one.

I think the board should get moving on this quick. This is only 3 months away. I think Grand Rapids would be fine for one more year. Teams know there way around, and most teams still have there hotel or travel info from last year. That will make booking hotels, and buses/vans easier.

Geographically, Toledo would be perfect. I don't know enough about their facilities to make a judgement on that.

We have never had a really well-run tournament in the CCLA. There are a few things that are key to making that happen:
1 - Leadership. The tournament must have an organizing committee that is dedicated, motivated and creative. They must have the time and motivation to put in a lot of hours, starting as soon as the previous tournament has ended, on all of the details.
2 - Facilities. We need at least two quality fields. Lights, locker rooms, painted lines, concessions, etc.
3 - Money. From CCLA team dues, sponsorship, ticket sales, etc.
4 - Community Involvement. Tournament organizers, volunteers, media, fans, local team participation, etc.

I think our current administration is dedicated to making this a great event. It won't happen overnight, but it must improve from year to year. The status quo is not sufficient.

ok. once again, I've done one of those nerdy things that I'm sure you all love...

US Microsoft Streets and Trips, I found the lattitude, and longitude of the cities (a rough estimate) where the CCLA A teams are:

School City LAT LONG
Central Michigan Mount Pleasant, MI 43.6 84.7
Eastern Michigan Ypsilanti, MI 42.2 83.6
Michigan Ann Arbor, mi 42.2 83.7
Michigan State East Lansing, MI 42.7 84.4
Oakland Rochester, MI 42.6 83.1
Western Michigan Kalamazoo, MI 42.2 85.6
Ball State muncie, IN 40.1 85.3
Buffalo Buffalo, NY 42.8 78.8
Indiana Bloomington, IN 39.1 86.5
Miami Oxford, OH 39.5 84.7
Pitt Pittsburgh, PA 40.4 79.9
Purdue West Lafayette, IN 40.4 86.9
West Virginia Morgantown, WV 39.6 79.9

I'm not sure if the logic is totally correct, but the average of the latitudes, and longitudes lies at 41.3N, 83.6W.

The geographic center (not taking into account the existance of Lakes Erie, and Ontario) would be Bowling Green Ohio.
