Friday's Trivia (Non-Lacrosse) Question

Postby KnoxVegas on Fri Dec 16, 2005 11:00 am

An offshoot of my Thurday follow up question:

Terrell Davis finished his college career at the University of Georgia. But that is not where he started his college career. What college did Davis start at ? Who was his head coach and what lead to him transfering?

Wasn't it Long Beach State (CA), after the school cancelled the varsity football program? Was that the team that George Allen (of Redskins fame) came back to coach a few years before permanently retiring?

Terrell Davis started at Longbeach State then left because their football program was cut.

TD didn't get that much pt at Georgia since he was a back-up to All-SEC, Doak Walker winner and third place Heisman candidate Garrison Hearst.

George Allen (former coach of the 'skins and I think he invented the monster defense) On a sad side note, many believe he got pneumonia after players dumped gatorade on him after their last game, because he died shortly there after.

Thank you fantasy football for the TD question. As for George Allen, as a cowboy fan, all they do on sports talk radio (1310 - The Ticket at http://www.theticket.com) is talk about 'Skins this or 'Skins that because of the upcoming game.

Speaking of dumping Gatorade on a coach, I read that Bill Parcells was the first coach to have Gatorade dumped on him in a Super Bowl when he was coaching the Giants.

Ali, you remind me of the days, I mean in the early 1980s when I was a college student at Gallaudet College (now Gallaudet University), all I would see all of those banners and all of the talk from the George Michaels show in Washington, DC, those folks REALLY, REALLY make a big deal out of the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry. At first, it was interesting, but after a while, it gets really old.

Correct.

Davis played two years at Long Beach State, the first under the legendary George Allen. Allen died died in December 1990 and was succeeded as head coach by former Raider Willie Brown. LBSU disbanded the program after the 1991 season (there had been high hopes that Allen would revive a long dead program). The players were allowed to transfer without haing to sit out a year.

Davis then followed an assistant to UGA.

Follow up question:
Terrell Davis attended what high school?

This high school also is the alma mater of what former Heisman trophy, Super Bowl MVP and NFL MVP?

This guy also has a brother who went to the high school who has amassed one of the most storied careers in the CFL where he has been named CFL MVP twice and lead his teams to three Grey Cup championships. Who is the brother?

Three parter. Must answer all three please.

Hint #2 It was Superbowl V. Matchup was Cowboys vs. Colts

side note: in the divisional playoffs the Cowboys defeated Detroit by one of the weirdest scores: 5-0. A FG and a Saftey were the only points of the game.

CORRECT. Bud Grant.

As for the MVP of Super Bowl V, I saw it last night doing research so I will abstain.

I will suppose that "Hollywood" Henderson did most of the coke in the Big Easy that week.

Point of Fact:
Super Bowl V was the coldest ever with the kickoff temperature being 39-degrees in Tulane Stadium.

Driving thru Tulane's compact campus a few years ago, it's hard to imagine a Super Bowl being played there. Tulane's Stadium is long gone and has been replaced by some athletics buildings and fields.

It has been a long day and since no one has answered, I give up.

Chuck Howley, LB won the MVP for Super Bowl V

This was the first and only time (as of yet) that a player from the losing team was named MVP. And this was the first time that a defensive player was named MVP (so obviously this was the first LB to get the award).
