Great Exposure for Lacrosse in NCAA NEWS!

While reading this months edition of the NCAA News this afternoon at work I came across this quote at the end of an article discussing the future of the NCAA:

"If you track championship attendance for lacrosse over the past few years, each year it's getting closer and closer to selling out a large stadium," Niland said. "Lacrosse began in the Northeast and its popularity is starting to spread to the Midwest, and more and more people are starting to play. It has the excitement of soccer, the physical aspects of football and the technique of basketball with all the cuts and moves. I think we're going to see more young people -- men and women -- become more interested in lacrosse."

Hey, every wife appreciates seeing a man sweep....even if it IS outside...in the snow... HE'S STILL USING A BROOM!!

(actually I used to watch it with my Grandpa Barclay. They'd show the Canadian curling matches on Channel 9 in Detroit on Saturdays. Don't know why it hasn't caught on...)

Unfortunately, like we have had with our school newspaper, most journalists know nothing about lacrosse, it's history or it's current situation. We have run into issues with our paper because they write things that they think sound good, but to the lacrosse community either don't make sence, or just sound foolish. Same goes with your typical media outlets. ESPN and CSTV are the only national television media outlets that have a clue about lacrosse.

But like many say,

Any publicity whether good or bad, is good publicity.

I used to coach HS fencing, where the weapons are foil, saber, and epee, except in the school paper, where they were foil, Savior, and eppe.

I just can't wait for the day when they don't have to explain the rules of the game, in detail, before every televised game. I mean, I guess its helpful for newbies and what-not, but it makes the game that much more alien to those who aren't familiar.

For now though, I have no complaints on the way Lacrosse is being broadcasted. Until lacrosse passes soccer on Professional sports lists (which will be soon i believe) explaining the game is the only way to get people to understand it. Lacrosse has inovative rules that people wouldn't get without explanation (ball going out of bounds on a shot- for example).

ESPN and CSTV, Mazzle you two good things.
