What's the basis of your argument? I don't see any validity... If anything, it seems that Pac-10 teams and pretty much anyone that plays USC gets the odds in their favor, despite actual talent. I mean, like BSTE Lax said, Cal got worked by Texas Tech, and Texas won their game that year also.

I'm still calling the "upset" with Texas beating USC convincingly.

Baller1, I was in that camp until the Rose Bowl took place. After watching that game I think the folks making the decision picked the right team for the game. Cal had a good season last year, and it would've been great to have the traditional Big 10/Pac 10 matchup, but Texas was the better choice. As for Cal losing to Texas Tech, part of that might have been consolation blues.

Benji I'll take your bet and raise you five. After their victory over UCLA, the Trojans are primed and ready for the Rose Bowl. I'm picking USC to win by a small margin. Should be a good game.

PAC 10 needs to split and go N/S with a conference championship game, they will then, if Oregon finishes 10-1 they will have a real reason to complain.

however, someone is going to have to explain to me how they finished above ND in the bcs and still got left out?

The fact that Cal lost to Texas Tech in the bowl game that they did get into is totally irrelevant. The fact is that they got shafted big time by a conspiracy of southern coaches led by Mack Brown. What happened after that means absolutely nothing. Oregon got shafted this year also. Witness the votes by Texas Tech coach for Oregon at #15, Arkansas coach at #10 & TCU coach at #8. Ridiculous. There is no explaining or rationalizing either of these 2 facts. The BCS is BS.

i know that but i thought that the bcs was still supposed to go in order of ranking after the AQ's were decided.

i'm not backing the texas voting record, because it is what it is, but the cal/ttu result validated that cal was not as good as advertised.

same situation if oregon gets waxed by oklahoma.

The BCS is in place to ensure that #1 plays #2...after that, it's like a draft and the bowls select the teams they feel will generate the most $$$. Past the NC game, the BCS is not committed to slotting any teams in certain games. Anytime ND is ranked in the top 12 they will be chosen based on the revenue they can generate.

I agree the system is horribly flawed, but the BCS has done the two things they have set out to do...match #1 vs. #2 and make a ton of money.

I don't see USC's defense, or lack thereof, leaving the field with their heads held high. Reggie Bush may run all over Texas, but I don't think the Trojans can stop the Horns' ridiculous scoring attack. I hate to say it, but Go Horns

if Oregon got screwed, then look at other schools with 1 loss. it hurts that you didnt play UCLA. you guys had a chance when you played USC, but you lost, which is no different than everyone else.

-Penn State won the Big 10.
-W. Virginia is contractually bound to get a shot cuz they wont he Big East.
-TCU beat the #7 team in the country, OU, but lost to SMU, which had their best season in years. i think they have a bigger beef than Oregon cuz at least TCU won their conference. they are relegated to playing a 3rd tier Houston Bowl.

-Ohio State has 2 losses, but they are close losses to the #2 AND #3 teams in the country.
-Notre Dame has the special clause in the BCS standings. cant argue with that cuz its in the rules, no matter if its right or not.
-Auburn is ranked ahead of Georgia, even though Georgia just won the SEC Championship.
peace.

I just don't buy that at all. The bowl bids are supposed to go to the team that has achieved the highest ranking in the BSC system at the time the bids go out. What happens afterward is not part of the equation. Texas manipulated the process last year to achieve a result that got them in and kept Cal out. That wouldn't have happened without their interference. Those are facts and are indisputable. You just can't use a rationalization that they lost their bowl game afterwards to condone the result. The same thing is happening to Oregon this year. There is no way that they should have been voted as low as they were on a number of ballots. It's a bastardization of the process. That is why the BCS doesn't work.

I don't think this is true either. There are 4 bowls that must take the ranked BCS teams. Some of them still have conference tie-ins, but there are specific BCS requirements for who goes to the BCS bowls.

i'm kind of a third party in all this because i don't care that cal got left out and i also think the texas coaches' conspiracy is wrong. and i probably don't care that cal got left out because they were exposed against TT.

i think the real arguement should be that the #2 team from the PAC 10 should get a better bowl than the holiday.

It's not even so much that it's about the #2 Pac-10 team. They are the #5 BCS team and are not going to a BCS bowl and that is just wrong.
