MDIA Team Names used in Winter League

The Utah Lacrosse Assn. has used the names of USL-MDIA Div. A and Div B teams in organizing it's 2006 High School Winter League. I think it's a nice touch, and has almost every conference represented. Nice job ULA!

nice touch. i would be amazed if a kid on the St. Johns team could tell you where collegeville is. Maybe i should call them up and give them a little history lesson about SJU.

Don't take this the wrong way... but do the kids in Utah know anything about Calvin College or Harding or Pacific Lutheran?

Still it's a nice touch. In many areas of the country, the MDIA still isn't viewed in a favorable light.

Some of the leadership types running the USL chapters & leagues plus many of the top H.S. coaches come from traditional varsity programs back on the East Coast. IMHO, many of these folks do not give the MDIA teams/conferences a fair shake and they will always look down on the "club" level of play.

It's been a huge struggle here in Michigan, but I think that the MDIA is finally being accepted as a "next step" for HS guys. The problem is that we are in an area where kids get some looks for D1/D3 schools, but not everyone in the state the deserves to go "out east" gets the looks that they deserve. I think that this comes from the attitude of some high school coaches that experienced the "old school club lacrosse" when they were in college. I'm glad that great coaches like John Paul, Dwayne Hicks, and Ron Hebert have paved the way for people like me to show High School players in our area that we are a great place to play college lacrosse.

Sonny IS right. There are still areas where the MDIA is looked at unfavorably.

Sounds like the typical, small-minded "I'm with this group, and you're with that group, and my group is better so you must suck" attitude responsible for so many problems in the world. I mean, if people didn't have a need to feel superior in this way, would racism, sexism, and so many other forms of discrimination be the issues they are?

As some people have pointed out here, there are MDIA programs that can kill some of the DIII programs, and probably some of the weak DI programs as well.

Thanks for the heads-up fellas, out here in Washington State, we are very isolated from the varsity lacrosse scene. I read something somewhere that said varsity college coaches won't even look at kids from WA because the level of high school lacrosse isn't up to par with what it should be. Whatever... It's a growing region.

I love checking weekend scores and seeing MDIA schools come out ahead against varsity teams.
