He suffered from bleeding to the brain and he had to undergo emergency brain surgery on Saturday. According to his father, they are especially happy with his recovery thus far as his speech was clear today.

After witnessing the whole thing, I honestly believe its a miracle that he is still alive and that he has not suffered more severe permanent damage that we know of at this time. Thanks to everyone for their support and I will continue to update everyone on Charles recovery.

I sporke with Coach Reed, the new Emory coach and yes he did regain concoiousness today and the 1st thing he said was "did we win"
however everyone needs to pray cause other aspects of his life are still in question such as eye/hand cordination and if he will be able to read etc....

coach Reed and I also discussed helmet's. Everyone remember to make sure that your helmet is no more than 3 years old [recommended by cascade] and that in practice and in games it is fully snapped up and snug. Even though not much hitting may go on in many people's practices, this injury came from a shot, so always be buckled up.

Charles Neal's status

Postby cneal on Fri Oct 28, 2005 8:36 pm

Dear Friends,

Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and concern. Charles W. Neal was injured Oct 15 in Athens, requiring emergency craniotomy for a subdural hematoma. He had been struck on the temporal region of the skull by a shot during a club lacrosse match between Emory and UGA. His condition was very serious and I am happy to say that he received prompt, excellent care which saved his life and which has kept him neurologically is good shape. He is now at home and will be undergoing out patient rehab...expecting a full recovery!

His helmet did help, but I wonder if more attention needs to be paid to the temporal portion of the helmet. Over the years, it appears to me that this area is becoming more exposed.

Thanks again for all the kind words and messages. Our entire family is very appreciative.

Sincerely,
Charles R Neal (Dad)
