Speaking of dogs and the Bay. it brought back instant memories of the woman lacrosse coach (Whipple?) who was attacked and killed in the apartment building by some large breed of dog - carneros or something like that?
Now THAT was a tragedy and the dogs' owners deserved to be hauled into court. What was the final outcome of that case?
The pit bulls and bull - that is nature, and I didn't find it offensive at all. I was rooting for the bull. (I hate pit bulls, because so many have been raised poorly, either intentionally or neglect. I can't trust them if I see one.)

im not a huge fan of pit bulls either. i actually live with one, he's ok but there is a reason that miami-dade county has outlawed them. About every 6 months you hear of some little kid getting mauled/killed by a pit.

I answered my own question; the couple that owned the Presa Canaro was originally found guilty of 2nd degree murder, but at sentencing the judge reduced it to manslaughter, and they received the maximum 4 year sentences.

In my opinion, pit bulls are the opposite of a few bad apples ruin the barrel. It’s more like, a ton of bad apples ruining it for the few responsible and ethical breeders/owners. We need a national moratorium on this breed. Nothing like seeing emaciated dogs, gnawing on kids every other night on the news.

Its not the breed its the owners. The reason you see so many pit bulls and other "aggressive" dogs in the news is because they tend to appeal to irresponsible owners who want the tough dog look. You can take any dog and teach it be aggressive. Well trained pit bulls and rottweilers are some of the most obedient, loyal, and loving dogs I have ever encountered. Almost all of the problems with dogs in this country are due to irresponsible owners and irresponsible breeders. Start licensing breeders and you would see a lot of these problems go away. Just a bit of information, one of our local shelters euthanizes an average of 30 dogs per day.

Amen. It's the typical knee-jerk reaction, blame someone or something other than the ones who should be taking responsibility for the problem. When are people going to start recognizing that they should be accountable for their own actions? Yeah, I know that it's easier to blame it on the guns, but not address the irresponsible gun owners. It's also easy to blame the tobacco companies, because god knows that they forced you to smoke those cigarettes. Now we should wipe out an entire breed of animals . . . . .Give me a break.

Part of that is because pit bulls and rottweillers were originally bred as guard and police dogs. Aggressiveness is a desired trait. Unfortunately a dog like this in the wrong hands is a disaster waiting to happen. I think a license to own such a dog is a good idea, maybe monitored by the local police and humane society. Each of those breeds can be good pets WHEN RAISED CORRECTLY!!!

Everyone knows its the owners not the dogs. I even agree with the hand gun analogy, slightly. I currently live next to one of the largest dog parks in the country. 99% of the dogs are off leash, including many pit bulls and other stereotypical "labeled" breeds.
Some communities across the country have outlawed dogs period because of a few irresponsible dog owners and incidents. The pit bull needs to reigned in and brought back under control. Placed in the hands of selected responsible breeders. Who breed for sound temperament/body and mind.

"Chloe is a sweet and gentle dog who loves children. Tofupup is high-strung and needs to be muzzled around other animals. "
Same owner, one of them is evil. Sometimes it has to be the dog.
