As planning for Fall and Spring games are getting underway, I want to offer a suggestion for those teams that don't have a scoreboard with clock at their game site, or even those that do that want to do a better job on penalty tracking.
At the Lacrosse convention last year I picked up a LaxClock. (www.laxclock.com) This device is great for keeping game and penalty times all in one unit, all synched to one start/stop button. It was an idea I had for several years, and it's great to see that someone actually took the time to invent one!
If clocks are always a problem at your games, I highly recommend adding one of these to your team budgets.

These things are fine if you never have more than 2 penalties running at once. But in a sloppy game with a lot of fouls? They're useless.
Teach the timer to write down the game time at which each penalty gets released. That way, it doesn't matter how many penalties are going on at once.

Actually, if there is a game clock as well, you can keep three penalties on the LaxClock. I can tell you from usage that it isn't useless! Especially in HS games where they're usually scrambling to find a scorer and timer.
Obviously they're writing down the penalties and times in the book, the LaxClock just makes things easier.

We've used one, and we'll probably buy one this next year. I'm tired of grabbing a horn and having it not work, or be neary dead. This thing makes one of the most annoying noises on the planet, but has always worked when we needed it.

I would agree that the screech it makes doesn't sound much like a horn. It's worse than a car alarm on the streets of NY, especially for the person operating it! They learn how to turn it off very quickly.

Unfortunately, when it's windy, it's much more difficult to hear than a traditional horn.
