NCAA Football Week 2

Postby Brent Burns on Sat Sep 10, 2005 7:09 pm

The Fighting Irish defeated the Wolverines, 17-10.

Tarzan's Nicholls State is leading by 3 points over Indiana, 31-28 with 2:03 left. The Hoosiers has the ball right now. Without any question, Tarzan is pretty much glued to either watching or listening to the Colonels-Hoosiers game. Just visited Yahoo's Game Channel online, and the Hoosiers won, 35-31. It was about 2 seconds left when NSU had the ball, and the ball was around 20 yard line. The game was over.

Sonny's Ga Tech won over the Tar Heels, 27-21.

I would probably get a PM sometime tonight, but I guess lil lady lax fan's Eastern Michigan is winning right now, 27-3 over a team from Louisiana.

Right now, Texas and Ohio State are still tied in the first quarter unless something has already changed. In the 4th quarter, the Buckeyes are up 22-16 with Texas having the ball.

Benson's Iowa Hawkeyes lost to Iowa State, 3-23.

As for other games, I am sure others will chime in later tonight. :)

Maybe I should call this post: Yet another reason to hate Texas (the university, that is...)

Yes, as a diehard Michigan fan I should've been cheering for Texas, but truth be told I was rooting for Ohio State to win. Two reasons: what they did to Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and loyalty to the Big Ten.

Needless to say I'm doubly depressed this evening

With Western Michigan's loss to Toledo, the only bright spot was Eastern's win. Of course they play Michigan next week. Can you say 'not a chance in ___?'

It's probably a good thing we don't have a football pool at my office--I'd be shelling out quite a few bucks this week!!!

I can't even come up with excuses, the game was just ugly.

Iowa Lax did beat ISU 13-6 in the annual fall game so something positive to take from the day.

Oklahoma wasn't too impressive again this week against Tulsa. The game was a lot closer than the 31-15 score would have you believe.

Speaking of scores not reflecting the game, Nebraska's defense bailed them out again this week with 3 touchdowns. They scored more than Nebraska and Wake Forest's offenses combined! The final score was 31-3. I'm really not looking forward to watching next week against Pitt. Nebraska can't move the ball very well, and Pitt just sucks, so it'll probably be the defense winning the game again if they happen to come out victorious.

Eventhough Baylor defeated its Baptist brethren, Samford, 48-14, I read that the Bears won the game with its defense and special teams. Next Saturday, the game between Baylor and Army will be televised on ESPN Classic. You all will notice that the Bears will be wearing their temporary green helmets (they wore them against Samford) this Saturday because their gold helmets have been sent to the manufacturer due to chipping problems on the helmets.

Brent, I listened to the NSU game yesterday on the radio...unfortunately because of last years academic scandals we can’t be on TV, which is unfortunate considering ESPNU is now on line and would have given us another opportunity to be on TV. Got to say loosing by 4 points in the last minutes of the game to a Div 1-A team is actually a victory. Colonels got a bunch of transfers this year (not Katrina related) and the Southland better watch out. Can’t wait for the home opener.

Tigers also played a great game…No matter what the Saints might think; LSU is the State's favorite football team! We needed that win!! I think it really helped our spirits.

I also read that the Saints won the game against Carolina. That will have been a great weekend for y'all in Louisiana- LSU and the Saints. I am pretty sure the NSU Colonels will feel good that they played a Division 1/Big Ten team in a very close game. As a matter of fact, the Colonels were able to move the ball well in the waning moments despite two passing incompletes. I can see that the Colonels have a balanced running game. In fact, the whole state of Louisiana richly deserves that kind of emotional boost.

How about the Sparty's with the #1 offense in the country?

And how can you say "diehard Michigan fan" and "rooting for Ohio State" in the same sentance?

Hey Matt,
Cut me some slack. I cheer for you guys when you aren't up against Michigan. Fair is fair. As for Ohio State, they are a Big Ten team, so I felt that I should cheer for them out of league loyalty. Besides, they were up against Texas. After what they did to Michigan in the Rose Bowl do you honestly think I'm going to cheer them on?!!! The worst part was I had to see that up close--I was depressed for a week!

Glad to hear the Spartans are doing so well. Have to admit to having a soft spot for the name, I was a Spartan in high school. :D

NCAA Football Fanaticism 101

Rule #1. No '2nd favorite' teams. Conference loyalties can apply but no actual support or cheering may occur.

Example of an acceptable response:

UF Fan 1 "hey man Tennessee is kneeling on the ball with a 10 point lead @ USC"

UF Fan 2 "good for them i hope fulmer has a heart attack."

Thanks for the lesson, Danny, I'll try to keep that in mind!

So Matt, when y'all are in town this spring I'll be the one up in the stands glancing furtively around before shouting out "Go Spartans!"

I'm more of a fan rather than a fanatic. Makes it easier to deal with the heckling when my teams aren't doing so well.
