how is wvu only going to get 14th... I mean they dont burn cars at penn state or ohio university do they??

the administration at UF takes it more seriously than any of the students. They are absolutely dedicated to getting UF off the list. Major anti-alcohol campaigns began right when the new president Bernie Machen (from Utah) took over. I believe they even have a drug/alcohol czar position now as well. I haven't heard of any noticeable differences.

Wisconsin is #1? No big knock on people from Wisconsin or anything, but Madison is not that great of a town to hangout in. From my experiences visiting UW and Madison, I certainly wouldn't put them that far ahead of many other places.

Personally, I would give places like UCSB an automatic #1 just because of the town, weather and beach.

Does anyone know people from Lehigh who can confirm their hard partying? Considering Lehigh's location, and student demographic, I think they might be confused with a "drinking" school, not a "partying" school.

I am basically interested in what criteria did Princeton Review use to determine which schools are partying schools. I find it interesting that there are three Louisiana schools listed in the top 20 with Loyola of New Orleans and Tulane being at #10 and #11, respectively. If I remember correctly unless someone corrects me, there is only one Cali school listed.

UCSB is the only Cali school on the list. Chico State should probably be in the top 25, though.

I'm surprised that UVA isn't on the list. It was #1 when I was in school.

CNN.com has an article about the UW-Madison being the biggest party school. In the article, they talk about the grading criteria used.

Dan, you must have gone a bad weekend or something because I have been to Madison a couple times and it is a fun town to be in. Aside from Iowa (of course biased on my end), Madison was my next favorite Big Ten town to be in for both overall appeal plus party-school atmosphere.

As for Bloomington, never partied there before but the town itself was old and dumpy in my opinion and didn't give off a vibe like it was a big party school.

And for my little own diamond in the rough, Iowa City. Much like Danny said about Florida trying to tone it down. Iowa City has been doing the same the past 6 years. Actually like 8 years ago, they made all the greek houses go dry so everyone went downtown to the bars to drink (which is when I became a freshmen). My freshmen and sophomore year were crazy at the bars because there was basically no rules. Then little by little over the years, they keep changing or adding rules/laws to prohibit this or that. Currently, you can't buy more than 2 drinks or shots per person per order. If you order like 5 shots for your buddies around you, you have to show 3 overage wristbands which can get annoying after a while.

But if anyone here gets the chance, go to Madison or Iowa City for a fun time.

Wow, Madison #1 and UT-Austin, TX is number 15. Although I think the criteria is based on number on drinking stats, and not just parties. Such a criteria seems very subjective.

im sure that everyone is surprised that their college isnt up there, but face it, youre biased. im surprised that colorado isnt up there. all ive ever heard about it is that it is a huge party school and whenever they make the news it seems to be about the football recruits out at strip clubs and at parties and such or some misfortune involving drinking. oh and how could they leave minnesota off?!?! its like the number 1 drinking school ever!!! (not that i would know cause im under 21

) i thought i should throw that out just to be like everyone else.

We made the Stone Cold Sober list! We do party off campus and know how to have fun. We are also a dry campus on paper. Students do drink on campus, but they can get in trouble for drinking. Dare to be different.

I guess I'll throw in my "homer" comment:

For the size that we are (only about 7,500-8,000 students), Vermillion, South Dakota knows how to party. D-Days (Homecoming) is especially crazy, but the rest of the school year isn't far behind it. We used to throw some really good parties at the "lacrosse house", but I guess we're trying not to get in trouble now, so we don't do much of that anymore. If you'd like a testamonial about our parties from someone not attending USD, ask someone from Oklahoma State that came up about 3 years ago...they'll let you know.

Some of the schools have no reason being there. I go to a tiny school in one city block with 1,000 or so people, and I'm sure we could outparty Lehigh or Loyola. This is definately skewed by some unknown statistic they put in the ratings. Schools like Virginia Tech and South Carolina are known for being a lot more party-savvy than half of those schools. Come on....Ohio? IF anything, Ohio State. And whose ever heard of an insane New Hampshire party weekend?

This is also wrong because I'd be willing to bet most of the real party schools are Southern schools. I just don't see all of those prestigious Northern universities being crazy party schools.

EDIT: Those guidelines are stupid (from the CNN article). I'm sure they didn't ask everyone at every campus how much they drink. Also being in a Greek organization doesn't mean you drink more or less, I know plenty of people who aren't Greeks who drink tons. Lastly...hours of study don't mean too much either. I'm sure plenty of college kids drink and "study", and I know of many who drink and do schoolwork. They should take into account like beer and alcohol sales in the city of the Univ. or other stats like that.
