At least you don't run up the score like those heartless Aggies.
Disclaimer: Since about 172 Aggies post on this board, complete joke.

I don't recall seeing anybody post that about CSU.

The selection process has a lot to do with who is coaching the team. This year's team is made up mostly of Michigan, BYU & AZ guys. Naturally a coach is going to take his own players, just like Flip did last year. I don't think that anyone should have a problem with that.

Just FYI, I've never heard that from anyone. I've actually heard very good things about the Rams that have played on those teams in the past...except for this keeper that used to play there a few years ago. I heard he was too much to handle!

I'd say. I've played them, that's a bunch of 1-man show ballhogs that somehow rock out and take names. This might be from a guy who has never come within 10 goals of beating CSU in the fall, but...
Most of those guys, i'm actually amazed they show-up. They seem like the type of guys that wouldn't. And for Flip to keep that program running and up on top... wow.
But really I might get that impression because of a few guys and i'd imagine that within a couple years, they will be losing that talent, but growing as a team.
But is there life for CSU after Flip? What will that team look like?

Here is some more info on how the team is doing which was sent from a friend on the team:
scrimmage:
USA West 7
Japan National Team 5
This score is impressive because the national team was seriously good when we played them last summer. Nice job West, but it looks like they lost by one in the actual tournament, possibly partially due to officiating problems. I can definitely concur that it was sometimes a problem over there...
USA West also beat USA California in a scrimmage, but I don't have a score.
Japan lost 2 games and was eliminated, so now it will be USA West versus USA California for the championship game.
"we played each of the teams once in a round
robin format and then the two teams with the best records play on
sunday for the championship. we should have gone undefeated but lost
to the same japanese national team we scrimmaged in a horrendously
officiated game. they had already lost one game and this was pretty
much an elimation game if they lost. we were flagged for 12 penalties
to their 1. 3 out of 4 refs were japanese. the rules for
this tournament are not the ones we play with in the states so we had
to adjust slightly for the differences. however, the things we were
penalized for were happening on both sides of the ball yet we were the
only ones getting flagged. we played the entire second half man-down.
we definitely lost our composure when we felt like we were getting
screwed and they beat us by one goal. regardless, we won out and
thought we would play them again on sunday but they lost two games and
now were playing the other USA team."

Most of the team is on its way home now. The Michigan players and I are in Tokyo hanging out for a few days with our friends on the University of Tokyo team. Will Patton also tagged along with us, as he's staying in Japan and then possibly Korea for the next few weeks.
The tournament final that Steve mentioned was a lot of fun. Beautiful stadium. Nice crowd. Plus the TV angle. We pretty much overwhelmed the Cali team through the first half. They came back a bit in the second, but it was never close. It was an entertaining game, despite the score. Binge had a pretty nice day, scoring six in about three quarters of play. He was definitely the crowd favorite. He got the TV interviews after the game and must have signed about 500 autographs. Pretty neat experience.
We won our scrimmage yesterday against the Kansai U23 All-Stars in a game that was a bit closer than it should have been. With the tournament over we didn't look like the most motivated team, but it was good to have the guys playing together one last time.
Final party last night at a pretty good Yakiniku restaurant. A classic Farley impression by Dini to put a cap on things (motivational speaker skit).
From my perspective, this team was a real pleasure to be with. This was a very different experience than the last USA West team I was with (Perth World Championships in 02), partly because Japan is so different, and partly because of the makeup of the team and the schedule differences. Mostly, for me at least, it was really neat to work with such an outstanding coaching staff. Lamb, Allan and Broschart all know their stuff and are motivated to win, and it carried over to the team.
Thanks Steve, for another great experience.

Depends on where they are going. A trip a couple of years ago to Australia was a little over $3K. I think the cost also includes the expenses of the coaches, but I'm not totally sure about that.
