I don't remember that play but I have to imagine it was an offsides.

i think they snuck out of that offsides by calling timeout before the ref knew.

You can call a timeout during a dead ball situation regardless of the location on the field.

I've trid to use time outs to hide offsides before and the officials have called it on us anyway after I take the time-out. Kind of a grey area as far as I'm comcerned.

the only time i was ever wrong was the time i thought i was wrong and i was actually right.

lars - after the timeout did ya have the bench run on the field and create confusion?

I thought that offsides was a call that is null once there is a dead ball?

That's their patented Diamond & Triangle defense. The O feels like they're constantly being double-teamed!

I'm shocked - shocked I tell you! that coaches would try to hide their violations rather than being stand-up guys and say Yes, we were offsides.
Tsk-tsk.
Along with that, it takes a moment for the ref to count the players, and if it looks like a violation, I'll double-check before calling it. So during this time you've got to be watching to see if anyone is going off or coming on, along with counting the players on the field. Because of this, offsides calls often come in late, and it may be when the ball is now dead. You would still call the violation and penalize accordingly (loss of poss. or 30 secs).

The amazing thing to me is that there are still 3 Florida players open (since you only see 3 in the picture) and that the Florida player at the top of the picture is open too. If you're going to run a 7 man defense, at least cover all of them.
