Former Duke, Yale Players Join UCLA Staff
UCLA men's lacrosse is pleased to welcome two new assistant coaches to Westwood for the 2013-2014 academic year: George Buckley (Duke '05) and Matt Gibson (Yale '12).
Buckley, a four-time letter winner at Duke, will coach the UCLA defense. Gibson, a two-time First Team All-American at Yale and the 2012 Rookie of the Year in Major League Lacrosse, will coach the Bruins' offense.
"I'm looking forward to working with the coaching staff and our players in order to have fun and compete as best as possible," noted Buckley a few weeks into the preseason. "I believe there's a real willingness and ability for our returning players to help our new guys develop on and off the field, and I'm excited about the potential we have on the defensive end."
Seconding his optimism, Gibson commented that he was "very excited to join the UCLA Men's Lacrosse family and the strong staff already in place." Reflecting on the university, he added that "UCLA has a rich athletic and academic tradition, and I'm happy to be a part of it."
Returning to the UCLA coaching staff with head coach Jacques Bagley are assistant head coach Ben Bitonti and goalie coach Pete Britt. Having concluded their Fall Ball preseason, the Bruins will return to practice in January in preparation for the beginning of their regular season in February.
