Colorado (1 - 0, 7 - 0) @ Cal Poly (0 - 0, 2 - 4) Colorado win puts Poly squarely on the bubble much like Colorado was in 2010
Davenport (2 - 0, 2 - 0) @ Arizona (0 - 1, 3 - 2) This will be Davenport's first major test as a D1 team. I think this will be an interesting game
BYU (2 - 0, 6 - 0) @ Grand Canyon (2 - 0, 3 - 2) I don't think GCU has seen a team that rides and dictates pace like BYU.

Friday March 15
Colorado ( 1 - 0, 7 - 0) @ UCSB (2 - 0, 6 - 2) Colorado has a physical game the night before and then has to turn around and play a tough Gaucho team against whom the Buffs are 1-5 their last 5 meetings.
Duluth (2 - 0, 5 - 1) v. Michigan State (0 - 0, 0 - 0) Huge game for UMD to solidify a tournament spot. Will Sparty have the kinks worked out?

BYU (2 - 0, 6 - 0) @ ASU (1 - 0, 5 - 1) I only like ASU to mess with the poll voters
Texas State (3 - 0, 7 - 1) @ Northeastern (0 - 0, 0 - 3) Winner might just sneak into the next poll. To date N'eastern's schedule is more compelling, but at some point you've got to win. Scouting UCONN game will help.
Colorado State (1 - 0, 7 - 0) v. Michigan State (0 - 0, 0 - 0) The Rams, breathing oxygen-rich sea-level air will win this one in the second half. Sparty has less than 24 hours to recover for this game

SUNY-Buffalo (0 - 0, 0 - 1) @ Virginia Tech (2 - 0, 4 - 3) Bulls are logging some miles o this trip, but I think Joe Niclaus has the Hokies ready to go from the start.
Davenport (2 - 0, 2 - 0) @ ASU (1 - 0, 5 - 1) I'll be interested to see if Davenport's face-off domination (~65%)continues in this game. If not, it's going to be a long afternoon for goalies who have are used to seeing 3-4 shots per game so far.
Michigan State (0 - 0, 0 - 0) @ Illinois (0 - 0, 1 - 0) Just a gut feeling. Interested to see how these teams with new Head Coaches adjust in-game and between games.
Duluth (2 - 0, 5 - 1) v. Colorado State (1 - 0, 7 - 0) Duluth's youth may show in this game. If not, the score could be closer than expected.

Wow! Some surprising scores. Davenport over Arizona and GCU losing by a goal to BYU. It was close throughout and tied at the half. I guess Davenport and GCU are not following in the footsteps of Montana and USD.

Seems like this is where organization and school support really shows. Anyone know if GCU or Davenport is giving out lacrosse scholarships? It looks like they're pretty well supported by the school and organized under the Athletic department for each school rather than the club sports department (someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

As I understand it, Davenport is NAIA and the team is fully funded through the athletic department, and the school grants athletic scholarships for lacrosse. Grand Canyon is NCAA, and lists the sport on its athletic website, but I believe it is simply a club sport that receives school funding, i.e. coaching, travel, school resources etc. I am unsure if GCU is currently offering scholarships for lacrosse. The NAIA/NCAA designation is important, because for the athletic department to fund a club team they have to designate it differently, but it still must comply with Title IX constraints and other NCAA regulations. Again, someone please rip me apart if that is incorrect.

Davenport and GCU are entirely different cases than Montana and USD. The Grizzlies and Toreros were smallish D1 schools that found immediate success in D2, but have had the same issues of consistent funding and recruiting to keep the standard flying high in D1. Davenport and GCU enjoy full university support, something that can't be understated. Full university support! When you have it, it doesn't matter what league or division you play in you will succeed.
